The Packers are only expected to make free agent Ryan Grant an offer if he receives "little interest" on the open market.

If 31 other teams look at the majority of Grant's 2011 game tapes, that's exactly what he'll receive. Grant's ball-carrying burst has evaporated, and he was never an asset in the pass game. Perhaps old pal Joe Philbin would give Grant a tire-kick as No. 2 back competition for Daniel Thomas in Miami. Otherwise, the 29-year-old is likely headed for little to no 2012 role.

And so, if Green Bay is only expected to make Grant a minimal offer if he receives very little interest on the market, then I think it would be safe to say that Miami would also make a minimal offer to Grant if he receives very little interest on the market.

I'm not sure I understand the logic that says that since Joe Philbin is in Miami, their interest in Ryan Grant should be expected to EXCEED that of Green Bay's. I don't get that. Joe Philbin's presence means that Miami's interest in Grant will probably be identical to Green Bay's.

i wouldn't mind taking a flier on grant on a 1 year vet minimum or something real close to that deal...he's got a little gas left in the tank...but the guy stays hurt it seems...i definitely can see green bay parting ways with him

Green Bay platooned their RBs last year, Grant was mainly used for screen plays and 3rd downs. That's a roll I think Reggie can fill easily along with 1st and 2nd down. Reggie should probably get 15-20 touches a game next year (rushing and receiving) and Thomas will get 10 touches or so. I don't expect will try to run as often as we have in the past with Sherman calling the plays. He has a tendancy to be a little pass happy at times.

i wouldn't expect reggie to stay healthy in 2012 if we use him like we did in 2011..i think we dodged a bullet this year with how much we got out of him workload wise...i think we better lighten it up some in 2012 or expect him to break down

Jacobs is 30 yrs old, past his prime, i think he knows he can't be the main guy anymore. But as a complement to Reggie, i think he could really help keep opposing defenses honest, and open things up for our WRs.

ya, but listening to jacobs all year here in ny talk, he sounds like he wants to be the main guy somewhere be it whether he is past his prime or not.

also, he is the 2nd back now on the giants, so if its coming here to miami and doing that or staying in his hometown now and having the same role, unless the money is drastic, i dont see him coming here, which isnt a bad thing lol.

Exactly. Sounds to me like the media is trying to stir things up. They figure just because Philbin is here we are going to sign all of Green Bay trash.

With Bush and Thomas we are in very good shape. No need to bring in a broken down retread for depth. You know what you are going to get with Grant or Jacobs, and it's not much. I'd rather take a chance on a RB in the later rounds of the draft.
