Rotoworld suggests philbin might bring in Ryan grant

Thomas is injury prone so far, and we had to rely on Slaton way too much last year, so bringing in competition for Thomas if the price is right is not a bad idea.

True...but I am hoping the injury bug was more because he was a rookie who because of the lockout did not get the offseason training programs and full training camp to get himself into ideal playing shape. Really hoping that with the full offseason training programs and camp that Thomas will be able to show us he can stay healthy and effective.

His production has washed away and I think he has onl had 1 solid season...the rest have been injury plagued and stale. No thanks...go to war with what we got and maybe draft a late round guy there to groom.

Hmm so Grant has one solid season. 1253 yards rushing 11 tds just solid but of course Bush should be in pro bow lol. I dont think we need to spend big money on a runningback but bringing in Grant would not be a bad idea especially at a low price. Grant has two 1000 yard seasons and a 956 yard season so he is not a scrub running back and was solid last year, better than thomas for sure last year. Bush and Thomas stay nicked up so what would it hurt to bring in a good experienced back that has actually had a better NFL career than Bush in the same amount of years.

What injuries did he have last season? A bum hamstring? That's all I can remember. How many others the team suffered from the same thing?
Vontae was one.....

With Bush and Thomas we are in very good shape. No need to bring in a broken down retread for depth. You know what you are going to get with Grant or Jacobs, and it's not much. I'd rather take a chance on a RB in the later rounds of the draft.

How is Grant a broken down retread.

No thanks rather have DT. I mean come on... we still have to make that trade for DT look reasonable before we add this to the bust and all time dumbest trades category.

Either way I still think DT is a nice prospect but bringing another guy with experience in will not let DT develop.

I think Ryan Grant's value on the FA market this year will be like Ronnie Brown's was last year...Not much, and for not much money. He may not be "broken down" per se, but it's clear he is not close to what he used to be. So, in that case, I would prefer the younger up and comer. Just my opinion though...No idea what Ireland and Philbin think of him and his potential value to the team.

If he's cheap, I don't see the problem with getting him.

Not much difference between Ryan Grant and Steve Slaton. meh

Would have to vet minimal for it to work.

RB is not what we need at this point......too many holes elsewhere imo

Ozzy rules!!

Green Bay platooned their RBs last year, Grant was mainly used for screen plays and 3rd downs. That's a roll I think Reggie can fill easily along with 1st and 2nd down. Reggie should probably get 15-20 touches a game next year (rushing and receiving) and Thomas will get 10 touches or so. I don't expect will try to run as often as we have in the past with Sherman calling the plays. He has a tendancy to be a little pass happy at times.

That's not really true. James Starks served the role you're thinking of.

For much of the year Green Bay rotated series with Starks and Grant. But on Grant's series, Starks would come in for him on 3rd downs whereas on Starks' series, he'd stay in on 3rd downs. This is why you'll notice Starks got a lot more snaps than Grant.

There would be some special series, such as 2 minute drills and such, where no matter whose turn it was on the rotation, they'd put Starks in the game because they knew they'd be passing more. On the other hand, there would be certain series, like 4 minute drills, where the Packers knew they'd be running more and so Grant got the nod even if it wasn't his turn in the rotation. This is why a higher percentage of Grant's snaps were carries (37% for Grant versus 29% for Starks).

As for screen passes, Starks was targeted 25 times behind the line of scrimmage between the hash marks. Grant was only targeted 12 times in that section of the field.

Well the difference is Brown was coming off a 3.7 year but I agree Grant's value will not be high but at decent price it would be smart to pick him up because Bush has been constantly nicked and Thomas had a hamstring issue every other week
