RUMOR: Stephen Ross wants Jon Gruden AND to keep Jeff Ireland

yeah...this is what i was afraid of...ross wanting to keep ireland thus cowher is a no go and gruden is willing to come in with ireland...

and if ireland sticks don't be surprised if on draft day "with the #1 pick in the 2012 nfl draft the miami dolphins select matt kalil offensive tackle usc"

at which time me and my pitch fork will be on the next plane to davie...
lol, Ross will have to move from Davie and never show his face again in South Florida if that were to happen. I fear for their lives (Ireland and Ross) if they were to pass on Luck.

Hah, you know I think even Ireland would take Luck without even thinking twice. I think whoever wins the SFL sweepstakes better get that kid signed and ready to go before we even make it to draft night, or lots of fans will be on pins and needles.

What worries me more is the fallback to Luck though. Say we finish with the 2nd to 4th worst record. We'll have a shot at Landry Jones or Barkley. I guess it doesn't even matter who the GM is at that point, with this franchise' history I'd seriously be bracing myself for a major buzzkiller.

No way they pass on Luck

we took interior oline at pick 15 this year....in other words anythings possible...nothing they do would surprise me anymore...and o tackle is an absolute need

but yeah one would hope before he gets retained if your ross and you have the top pick you take him in the office and tell him point blank who you taking #1 overall...and he shouldn't even need to evaluate his decision...it should roll right off the tongue...andrew luck...any delay or questions and you hand him his pink slip...end of story...this is easily the easiest #1 pick decision in a long long time don't even need to evaluate any tape or interviews at this point...andrew luck is a no brainer

All that is true but he has Ross's ear. The last draft was ok but the dude just looks shady. Sold out Tony in a heart beat. If he comes between us and getting a good coach he's history.

Everybody keeps saying he sold out TS. As a GM its your job to do whats best for the team, NOT for the HC. Maybe Ireland realized early on that TS was a liabiltiy and suggested to Ross that TS should be replaced.
For all we know it was Ireland who originated the idea to pursue Harbaugh as he was a hot commodity last season and Ross just went along. Ross isn't a football man, so I doubt it was his decision to pursue Harbaugh.

i'd start praying for matt barkley to still be there...to me the top 2 picks are no brainers

What do you feel we should do if we don't get Luck but finish in the top 5?

looking at our schedule we'll be in the top 5 so don't fret about that...i would try to get in position by trading up if need be for matt barkley...thats what i would do...my #1 goal obviosuly would be to offer whatever i can for luck but if its no dice i go immediately to plan b and thats get matt barkley...he's got franchise qb upside and potential and he's not can't miss guy like luck but most years i think he easily validates the #1 pick value as a player...only thing with barkley is unlike luck i don't think he's ready from the jump...i think you got to ease him into things... luck you start from day 1...no question that kid will be ready

Yep, it's not even remotely imaginable. I guess you can't discount the possibility that Belichick hires the Mossad to drug both Ireland and Ross on draft day in order to take another tackle. But other than that, no way.

terrible idea. I love Gruden but he and Ireland are not going to get along at all. They couldn't be any more different from each other if they tried. Ireland is socially inept and Gruden has never met a microphone he didn't love. Also Gruden has no use for the Parcells prototype players, he always wants players with speed that can house the ball on a slant.

interesting point of view...does anyone know why gruden and tampa parted ways when they did??? i'm interested in knowing if there's any dirt on him...i do know that gruden is a players coach at least it looks that way to me...when you hear him commentate games everyones a damn pro bowler it seems if you listen to him talk...and i seem to recall him having a real thing for long in the tooth veterans on his team...

Dont put any stock into that argument. I dont really like Ireland but I also am not a biased person. I call it how I see it and this is how it is. 100% Truth is Ireland didnt run a draft on his own until this year. So those that think otherwise need need to revisit the events.
Sad part is, people blame him for drafts previous to this season. Even though Parcells was calling the shots before this past off-season. IMO, Ireland hasn't had enough time to prove himself.

I have no problem hiring Gruden and keeping Ireland in mix. No problem at all...as long as Andrew Luck is in the picture also.

Not so fast, my friend. Opposites can work well together. Chuckie & Jeff could either be yin/yang or the odd couple personified.

It was theorized in this thread that BP was calling the shots on prior to the 2011 draft. Who then drafted Gates & traded for Bush?

Maybe Ireland knows what it takes to win in the 21st century but did not want to upset Parcells?

i would agree with the draft side...although i still don't think he got great value with his picks relative to what was on the board it does look like he got some guys who can help us for the long haul this year...but his pro player personnel decisions and evaluations of other teams players and cuts well thats been downright woeful...you bring in marc colombo and think its a good idea and start him on your oline and i don't care what you do your grade needs to take a major hit...and if this is the way you envisioned using reggie bush point blank you should have never traded for him in the first place

Gates and Bush haven't done squat. Bush sucks and Gates smells like a bust.
