dude just stfu already with your correlating bs, enough is enough already
Shouright says a lot of stupid stuff but those numbers are significant. 8 of the top ten teams in yards per passing attempt are in the playoffs and there is a high correlation with that number and success. Almost 80%.
Should we be concerned going into next season that the Dolphins will yet again emphasize the pass disproportionally more than the run? I ask this because it was clear in few interviews earlier in the year that Sherman "supposedly" had no problem running the ball. But it was in-fact Joe Philbin that didn't like running the ball and would chose to throw it 100% of the time if he could.
And that's why Philbin should not still be here.
If you want my take on it, they projected Tannehill to play better this season, with that whole "most improved" statement, Philbin wanted timed routes, and the O line wouldn't have to hold their blocks too long. They were going to rely on quick passes, etc, and use the pass to set up the run. Then, with open lanes, they envisioned Lamar Miller getting yardage. Unfortunately, it didn't work out that way. They lost their starting TE right away, and their QB took too long to make decisions in the pocket and was inaccurate, the whole offense was slow at times and struggled with the scheme, and as the offense became more and more predictable, the sacks started racking up and the holes for the running game closed up. And when things are not working, players no longer buy into the system and stop trying. There's no reason, imo, for us to lose as badly as we did against Buffalo and the Jets except for the fact that the system was not working and the players gave up.
Anybody can throw a bunch of plays at a football team and say, here run this. Anybody can be a HC and say, hey you guys, you better execute what's on this piece of paper. You'd better play faster. It takes a real HC, and a real OC to actually get the job done and MAKE IT HAPPEN.
And that's why Philbin should not still be here.

It would be interesting to know how often those teams run against stacked boxes. For example the Broncos may never run vs a loaded box whereas teams like the Jets and Bills (5th and 1st respectively at attempts) may always run vs a loaded box. At the end of the day the play of the QB is what will make the running game successful, not the other way around.
The dilemma of always being up against a loaded box is an interesting one and I have no idea of the best way to attack it. You can force rushing attempts like the Jets and Bills or just continue to always pass like we do, but at the end of the day the results were the same.
I'm not advocating continually running the ball in unfavorable situations, but there are ways to use a stacked box in your favor, and that's where we often see the big runs.
Also, I can't say I agree that the QB makes the running game successful more than the running game makes the QB successful. Big Ben and Tom Brady are great examples of QB's who have improved but haven't won a SB since they've reached their apex. The more those organization put the ball in their hands, the less successful they've been in the playoffs.
Cue the people who believe Tannehill would play better with a better running game, despite that there is no objective support for that.I don't think anybody is disputing you need balance to be successful, how you achieve balance with a below average QB is the sticking point.
I want to see a strong running game that can still get the hard one or two yards even when the box is stacked; this will set up the passing game with play action passes and bootlegs.
You can see why I do not get along with Joe "professionally". I hate how he coaches. I hate his game plans. I hate the design. I hate how he changed the defense. i hate the finesse approach. I hate the lack of motivation skills.
I just cannot warm to Joe.
