According to offensive guard Vernon Carey the solution is simple. Put more of the load on the offensive linemen to get their job done.
The ground game, which is averaging an impressive 4.4 yards per carry after five games, happens to be the one thing this offense has going for it this season
Against the Jets in the red zone rookie tailback Daniel Thomas carried the ball five times and gained nine yards. Only only one of those runs produced a negative play.
The Dolphins threw the ball five times in the red zone and only completed one pass(20% completion rate), which was good for a 15-yard gain to tailback Lex Hilliard.
One drive turned into a pick-six when Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis transformed a pass intended for Brandon Marshall into at least a 10-point swing, and Dan Carpenter kicked two chip field goals in the first half when another two drives stalled after attempting to pass for a score failed again and again.
3 times, twice at the 3 yard line and once at the 7 yard line, we "attempted" to pass the ball and failed coming up with -1 point.
We do not have a very good QB, our OL run blocks better then pass blocks and we have no WRs we can count on. Yet we do seem to run the ball well and our OL is run blocking better.
I'm not totally sure we are trying to score touchdowns when we get into the redzone but running seems to be a better idea of getting one then trying over and over to pass when we have no success at it.
