Running game pathetic! (blame the o-line?)

You haven't read enough posts then. I've already seen threads about picking in the top 5 next year in the draft.
see i didn't read any of those threads... i read the subject lines and didn't see anything specifically referencing the running game, which in my mind was one of the most glaring deficiencies, so i started my own thread.

i can understand, i know how people are on here. i just hate when i get lumped in a group like that when i want to talk about THIS game, not the season or where the team is going. thanks though for understanding i'm not gonig that way...

but whatever. i'm done then. like the drama queens, i'll go to bed.

i understand that, i am a realist. but there usually is SOMEone that shines.... on the Bears Jones did well. For the falcons Dunn did well.... and indy... well their passing attack was pretty good considering they weren't even trying.

we didn't really have any one RB stand out. thats all i'm saying. i am not passing judgement on the whole team as i realize this is only the first game of the preseason.

my comments are speaking more of a "let down" from an alleged show of promise that was supposed to be the new coaching staff and regime. i guess all of us finheaveners really got everyone's hopes up and psyched out really... its ok though, looking forward to game 2!

well imo the passing game done pretty good and as 4 ricky how long was he in there 4 or 5 plays ? give us a littl;e time this is just our 1st pre game kay jay looked pretty good the thing that is worring me the most is cb play we got burnt alot down feild but i think we will be fine after a couple more games at all the other possions but we do need help at cb

good point about ricky... and they did only play him in the beginning when the bears were blitzing every play.

i wonder if the coaches will play him some more in the next game, or if they will keep him fresh and hidden for week 6? Kay Jay looked ok, i wouldn't say "good"... he had that one great pass play, but this was against the bear's 3rd or 4th string D... so nothing to get too excited about yet. I was plesantly surprised by berlin, i expect an INT, but he threw for over 100 yards before he did that. frerotte was a plesant surprise, i really wish feeley would have gotten a fair chance though - he was thrown to the wolves there.

but back to the running game, i would say this preseason game did absolutely nothing to help us define our position there. i think it was a great experience for houck to learn and see what he needs to work on. i'd love to see an o-line improvement for the next game.

if someone came on here and said "the sky is falling, we will lose the entire season, 0-16 here we come!" then i could understand. but no one is saying that. i just want to engage in a conversation about the running game. thats all. if you ask me, i would say you all are the drama queens.

Actually....the "0-16" part is about the only thing I have'nt seen...

I am shocked I have'nt seen a "Wanny is better then Saban" thread yet...

lol, now see THAT is something i would agree with you on the "oh give me a break" attitude about. that is going too far.

i was really wanting to discuss THIS game. as you guys have said, you cannot pass judgement on the season based on one pre-season game.

As fans we all want to see the dophins dominate every game, but the fact is we dont know what Saban and the coaching staff were trying to accomplish with these games. I came away with the impression they used a very vanilla shceme to strictly evaluate players in live game action. The bears on the other hand played for the superbowl tonight. The dolphins handled the blitz better than at anytime last season so there has been improvement. Its just my opinion but I think the team will get better each week with more of the offensive and defensive schemes implemented each week.

yeah i was wondering that too..... mcmike was the ONLY starter that i didn't see even play at all tonight.

i wonder why... punishment for the wife-beating? :p

good point. our plan didnt' seem too aggressive. i guess given the bears' attitude towards the game, and the fact it was the HOF game to celebrate Marino, i was expecting slightly more effort or a better plan.

keep in mind that even though it was only a preseason game, it was really a hallmark game.... the first game under Saban and the new coaching staff. it really was a sign (of some sort) of how things are.... that said, the defense looked worse than its ever been, although the offense had flashes of brilliance. i can't wait until the next game to see what happens. hopefully the o-line builds more chemistry and starts to gel, giving us some running game. i'd also like to see feeley get a fair shot at QB without the crappy o-line play and getting leveled by blitzes.

I think the reason most of our players were pathetic was coaching. Yes, Saban knows how to coach. But none of our coaches have seen our players play in a game before. Just because we looked good in TC doesn't mean we'll look good in a game. That's why there was no game planning. I'm sure Saban and the other coaches will review this game many times. This should result in our team gradually improving. Heck we can improve a lot just by getting rid of our obvious deadweight players. *Cough* Lee *Cough...just an example.

I watched the game a second time and watched center and LT play (our real worries). The 1st team did fairly decent. This gives me some hope actually. Seth will not start at center unless he gets better.

ALL is not lost!! Have some patience.

:rofl3: I remember when Seth snapped the ball and was thrown straight to the ground. Typical Seth.

i dunno.... our o-line and RB's on the "first team" were absolutely HORRIBLE at picking up the blitz... feeley was running around for his life.

i would say the 2nd and 3rd stringers looked better, but that could be because chicago's 2nd and 3rd stringers were that much worse, plus they weren't blitzing as much.... so you really can't tell too much.

i'd like to see a reversal next game - switch up the stringer rotations.

We will be allright. This is an evaluation process. I admit that I wanted a win as bad as the next guy, but I am not going to write the season off because of this game. Once they get the starting core together, we will be fine. Remember the week one depth chart is not even close to being finished.

i want to see boston (which did pretty good ) chambers and booker on the feild with randy at the same time which we will be 4 preseason is over with ricky in the backfield then we will have more time to look the field over and take pressure off the qb which will mean more receptions  and td:evil:
