On topic (I should have said this from jump) I like the fact that Tannehill recognizes the fact that he really has to step up. As stated earlier at least he just isn't giving the same 'ol answer. By saying he has to "make a big jump" he is putting the responsibility of winning on his own shoulders. Not only is that being self aware, it is showing leadership. Let's not forget that he is already holding practice with his receivers (those that show up) before any team scheduled practices. That shows initiative.
As for those crying about pocket presence. I won't lie and say he doesn't need to work on it, but he needs to be able to trust those in front of him in order to build that pocket awareness. Very rarely last year did the line hold together long enough for him to get set for a good throw. You can talk all you want about those last two games. The thing is had the line not had a melt down in the middle of the season there is a good chance those last two games wouldn't have mattered. Had the line held we should have gone into those games with the ability to rest some starters.
Now, if the line gels this year and Tannehill takes a step back then I am all for throwing him under the bus. Same for Philbin. I am firm believer in giving someone three years to improve. With Tannehill it was his rookie year, a year he was suppose to sit but didn't. He didn't do too bad as a rookie. His second year wasn't bad either, but could have been much better with a better line. This year is the prove it year. If he proves he can get us to the playoffs, great. If he can't then he needs to get the ax.
