Ryan Tannehill Is Proving He Belonged in the Vaunted 2012 Rookie QB Class

I read the last sentence of the article and pictured some people on this board's reaction.

Improvement and consistency. He was stuck for a few games IMHO, but he's moved beyond that and is developing. He's a tough kid, no doubt about it. He's gaining confidence, valuable experience and he's starting to play like he's the man.

If he continues, we're in good hands.

I'm sorry, it's just this kind of stuff that I think a lot of us find aggravating. How is it possible that any semi-knowledgeable fan could not see that this very young QB was doing a very nice job with a terrible OL situation. That given an improved line, he would be much better EVEN IF he did not improve himself. Throw in a bad ground game, and a ton of WR drops- was it not evident that this was a pretty damn good QB? Sure he has a lot of things he needs to work on (ball security, deep throw, getting the ball out, pocket presence...) but those are things most young QBs and a lot of veterans, struggle with.

Actually, Tannehill is reaching a point where he is making those around him better. Far from a finished product but the progress he is making is very encouraging.

He's turned Hartline, a natural #2 or #3 receiver into a 1000 yd producer, probably for a second year running. He's now on the same wavelength as Clay, making him a force to be reckoned with. (Does anyone remember the clamor at one point over what a wasted pick and how expendable he was?). I wish he could get on that same page with Wallace . Beyond that, Gibson was his go-to guy and already delivering like he did with the Rams on 3rd down conversion success and more. Beyond that, as junc has pointed out many times in TGG in the act of defending Sanchez's poor performance, losing Keller was "huge" for him. We had glimpses of it in exhibition season, but if Keller was "huge' in making the buttfumbler sometimes semi-palatable, imagine how productive he'd be with Tannehill.

With Mt McKinnie in place of Petticoat Junction now providing some protection resulting in Tannehill showing marked improvement all around, the mind boggles how productive he and the team would be if Keller wasn't cheap-shotted and Gibby didn't go down.

If he can keep it up at home this week against New England, then I think we have a very good chance of pulling out a win. This of course relies upon our line continuing to give Tannehill a respectable amount of time, our running game continuing to be a threat, and our defense getting some stops.

Excellent points, however while the Phinz OL has clearly improved (now that bum Martin is GONE) the offensive line is still really not very good. IMHO da Phinz must focus on getting some good NEW offensive linemen next year :-(

Year 3 will be very big for him.. We can enjoy the ride thru the rest of this season, but next year, Im pretty sure we start to see true greatness out of our boy..

One thing I'm noticing about Tannehill is that he's getting comfortable at his spot in the NFL, he doesn't look as lost as he did last year and he's developing chemistry with his team as a leader. Once he starts getting on page with Wallace, he'll be tearing it up. I'm excited for our future and was when they drafted the kid.

I don't think anyone here hates Tanny, if they do they're complete *******s and shouldn't be considered fans. He's been growing up right in front of our eyes the past 3 weeks. Let's just hope it continues.

See there's a difference between being critical of a QB and hating him. You have people coming out and saying we have no QB, he's costing us, or throwing every stat they can find to show Ryan Tannehill sucks.

I think the bigger issue is some people overreact to a turnover but forget that even the best will have high INT numbers from time to time. Now granted he needs to cut down on the turnovers, but he's made some improvements this season (fumbles, and when to move). He still needs to make better decisions when he decides to move (there have been a couple times since he's started moving where he has a lot of room to run or a wide open WR but instead will try to force the ball to Hartline) but he's improved in a lot of areas as the season has gone on.

I think another issue is some people get pissed when blame is deflected away from Tannehill. Now I haven't always been impressed with Sherman's playcalling (especially first half of the season), but he's gotten better. The INT yesterday was actually more a HoF player making a great play to read the QB.

This right here. I could not agree any more. Not only does Tannehill seem to always play through the pain but he is making those around him look good and he just seems to be steadily improving. Arrow pointing up.

How does he have a higher ceiling than Luck or Wilson? Both have good arms and are more mobile.

Ryan Tannehill has a much better arm than Andrew Luck. I am a huge Andrew Luck fan, I think the guy deserves the hype he gets, but his arm is not in the same ballpark as Ryan Tannehill's. It just isn't. Some of the throws Ryan Tannehill makes, I think maybe fans of this team just don't realize how good this kid's arm is. He throws deep outside breaking routes as well as anyone I've seen since like Jeff George.
