Ryan to Rebuilding Clubs: How Convenient

So nyjunc you really think Edwards is a great WO..IMO Cotch is better than him

Do I think he's great? absolutely not. I think he had 1 great season and he has attitude problems that have taking his career down the wrong path. I do know talent wise he's only behind Moss and TO in the div, he's only 26 and a change of scenery can help certain players. Cotch is better than him now but Cotch has never been as good as Braylon was in 2007.

You can't really think Edwards is going to help you that much this week or this year for that matter. If you do I wish I lived in your world. It takes time for a QB and WR to develop a relationship. I will give you that it will happen, but probably not for 3-4 weeks. It is then the middle of the season. So you are telling me you are happy that your FO decided to trade a 3rd and 5th round draft choice, your best special teams player and your #2 receiver for a player who may honestly be able to help you for at most 8 weeks (if no CBA is reached because your GM already said a contract extension won't be offered).

Also, there is no way you are anywhere near a SB calliber team. You don't have the QB or the running game. I am not saying we have a SB team but lets be clear a spade is a spade and you don't have a SB calliber team.

He will help even if it is just as a decoy b/c D's will have to now worry about Cotch, Edwards and Keller which will help open up the ground game.

Last year we had one of the best running games in the league, so far it hasn't been great but we are only 4 weeks in. We have very good backs and a very good OL. Our running game will be fine but I'd agree it would be difficult to win a SB w/ a rookie QB but there has to be a first time for everything. I'm not thinking SB though I'm just worried about getting to 5-1 and we did increase the talent level on our team today so I'm happy about that.

The attitude that the present is the most important and the future doesn't matter gets a lot of coaches fired. Look what that kind of attitude did for guys like Wannstedt and Saban. Heck, the Redskins have had that attitude for years, and how well has that worked out for them? The Jets are trying to buy a Super Bowl instead of building a long term team that will ultimately improve their chances of getting to the big game.

The Jets look better on paper and probably win more games this year and maybe next year because of the moves they are making instead of building through the draft and taking things slower. Three years down the road, Ryan will be fired and the Jets will be in shambles. Today the Jets look scarier, a couple of years from now? Laughing stock of the league. Book it.

He's not saying that teams need to mortgage their futures he's just not using any rebuilding excuses. he walked in here expecting to win right away and so far he's been right.

:lol2:

ALMOST as comic as someone making over 11 thousand posts, avg 5.5posts/day on an enemy forum, most of which were made even before he wore out his welcome with gaggreen? (Cause you gotta admit, THAT's either pretty ****ing hysterical or pathetic.. so being PC, we'll just go with a case of "the funnies."):hi5:!

I don't know I think a guy who spends his days creating photoshopped pictures of the jets is a little funnier/more disturbing.

i luv ya nub, but the diff between RR & DW/Satan is he's actually trying to GET guys into his program, not avoid them! DW/Satan both whiffed on Brees, over spent on 'the next Marino' constantly, sh*tted away high draft picks and left our cupboards bare. i like RR's attitude...frankly, it's Belichickian...if your team has a championship, the players on it will always be highly regarded each fa offseason; meaning, dance partners will cue up with picks or trade offers for you. imo BP needs to get some 21st-cent thinking about this league before it DOES pass him by. fire back -

PS, on your last point...the same was said of Belichick in '98/'99...his teams are still dominating a decade later.

stop using hindsight... if next year Braylon Edwards is out of the league then is this a good move for the Jets? we didn't know if Culpepper was the right move or all the players we brought by trading draft picks at the time they happened, now you can say it was dumb, but at the time you have no idea...

same with Edwards, you are gambling your future on someone who is obviously expendable for a reason... he lacks focus, drops more balls than any other receiver in the league, is a crybaby and has off the field problems... ok they might hit it right, or they can screw themselves over, but thats a risky gamble...

cant believe this uproar over Braylon Freakin Edwards...

i didnt even know he still played, has he caught a pass this season yet? i havent even heard his name mentioned...

This was taken from a conference call with the South Florida media.

"I want to win now," Ryan said. "Every team in the league should want to win now. In my opinion it’s a copout for any team to say, 'We’ve got a four-year program.' Well, how convenient. Your contract is four years, or whatever. To me, I don’t see how that's justified.

"Every team in the league has the same amount of money, the same resources. So why shouldn't you go for the same goal? We’re going for the Super Bowl championship. If people say that’s ridiculous, I think it’s ridiculous you should have any other goal in mind."

The problem with this mentality is he is mortgaging the future when he really doesn't have the team to win now. I say mortgaging the future because the Jets GM openly stated Edwards won't be given a contract extension, and barring an uncapped year in 2010, which I don't believe will happen Edwards will be a free agent. Now some nay sayers will say what can you get with a 3rd and 5th round draft choice. I will tell you to look at our very own roster.

I actaully think this trade is going to help the Dolphins in the long run.
The Jets are going to rent Edwards for 1 year and come next years draft they won't have a 3rd or 5th rounder to show for it. Not a very good idea considering the lack of depth the Jets have on their team right now.

I dont know about you but I think if next year is uncapped the Jets wont have a problem spending money.

The Jets know what 3rd and 5th round picks can turn into. They've found some good players in those rounds in the past.

Rhodes, Cotchery, Bradnon Moore, Leon Washington, Brad Smith, Eric Smith, Dwight Lowery (the last 4 being picked under the Tannenbaum regime) to name a few all were picked in the third round or later.

The Jets dont look at those picks as meaningless picks. Tannenbaum is just agressive and if he see's a guy as talented as Edwards available and he thinks he can help the Jets he will go after him.

First and as an important distinction, you do realize that I'm photochopping in a friendly environment, not attempting to foist it on a hostile audience. Second, as I've mentioned elsewhere, you can tell by the relative amateur quality that I can knock these out fast as a diversion in between cranking out what some might consider a decent income... and being self-employed, it's my prerogative. It actually helps me with my focus and productivity. What's your excuse? I really hope you're not in someone else's employ and stealing their time by gracing us with 11 thousand tidbits of your wit and wisdom.

I bet you'd love to know what I do for a living. Based on some of my arguments I think it would surprise you.

Rex Ryan is like a child. He can't give a compliment without trying to toot his own horn or say something to one-up the conversation. He's childish, and for some fans that are like children, they love it because there is no maturity or class in the organization. I think, although i hate the jets, it just dimishes the class of an organization. Here's an example:
Ryan said "Ronnie Brown ... is the best back we've faced," and the Dolphins are "the most physical team we've faced so far this season." But he added, "We're the most physical team they've faced."
"I went in there not really thinking I had a legitimate ... I wasn't sure about the process," Ryan said. "I got a lot more out of the interview than they did. I spent several hours with Bill Parcells ... I've approached some of the things in building football teams and all that and I've tried to do that here. I've taken some of those ideas with me."

"I got a lot more out of it than they did", like he stole something from Parcells that Parcells wasn't aware of saying.
And "we're the most physical team they have faced" it's like he can't be as cool and calm as Belicheat, he HAS to somehow make it about him. I can't honestly say i would enjoy having this guy as a coach.

This dude probably is a Patriots front office cap specialist!

Come on NYjunc, you KNOW that the jets are mortgaging their future by giving away picks. I would like to know how many you guys have next year after this. If this does not work out, then you will be forced, in years to come, to once again go after free agents instead of draft picks.

I like his attitude about winning now myself. We've had a 3 to 4 year plan with every coach we've had since Shula. Where has that gotten us?

He was complimenting BP.

Hey buddy, don't forget the impressive Bills last year started out at 4-0 before crumbling.....the story is still being written, hell we just got out of the first couple of chapters.

That is why I wrote "so far"

He's the coach of the opposing team...what do you expect him to say? I understand what you're saying...that he couldn't just leave it at that and that he had to add something in about his own team, but it's not that big of a deal.

I will say that I think the guy is a fat fool. Jets fans better enjoy him now because the stress of being a head coach combined with being an obese slob doesn't bode well for his health or the health of the franchise in the long-term.

Who's going to explode (literally) first? Ryan or Andy Reid?

Well Myke, which of our recent coaches has been around long enough (or made reasonable decisions enough to stay around) to actually see a four year plan come to fruition?
The advent of free agency just feeds the "gotta have it now" philosophy.
