Ryan's fumbling issue - Hand size?

he may be holding his throwing arm a little lower lately cause of a shoulder injury he got in week 3...i definitely think he's more hurt than we are lead to believe...probably a labrum injury of some kind

Hadn't thought of that but it makes sense. My only concern is that at some point a statistical anomaly becomes a trend and whether that perception might influence how he reacts in the pocket. I hope he's strong enough mentally to weather this.[/QUOTE]

absolutely a valid concern...

you show me a qb thats got the ball "high and tight" in the pocket and i'll show you a qb that isn't going thru his progressions and reading the field

I don't disagree with that either .... except he's the only one with this issue in mass. So when that happens, it's back to basics until you get past it and and move forward. Let's face it, he's got a reputation in this league now, and defenses are going to be going at him even more than normal.

For gods sake he did play WR and I didn't hear about him always fumbling as a WR.Tapatalk

How closely do you follow Texas A&M football? I don't know if it was or wasn't an issue there mainly because it wasn't something I watched like I do with the Dolphins.

yeah he's got a reputation of fumbling on hard clean contact...we lesson the hard clean contact he doesn't have it anymore

Every QB is going to take hits from time to time. They don't all drop the ball with this kind of regularity.

True, but until that happens .... Big Mac might just do that .... he has to keep from fumbling. It's killing us.

they don't all get hit as clean as ours does either...anyways i would like to see him hold onto some of these but i can't say i blame him off the contact he's getting either for not being able to...

Hand size and grip strength definitely play a factor when taking hits and hold onto the football.

Sure they do. Every QB gets leveled from time to time. There's a missed assignment, or just too many rushers to be accounted for. Brady got hit hard and clean at least twice yesterday. One of those turned out to be a touchdown pass.

I live in western PA. The games on TV here every Sunday show a QB who gets hit hard constantly -- Ben Roethlisberger -- and he doesn't drop the ball all the time. OK, maybe that's not a fair comparison, but I think you can see where I'm coming from. Maybe RT needs to scramble a little more where Big Ben is strong enough to shake off hits. The point is we are in epic territory for fumbles and continually putting it all on the O-Line when we've watch RT fumble getting hit from right in front, from the blind side and any angle means you have to put some of the blame on his shoulders. Great players, even good players to an extent, make those around them better or minimalize the deficiencies around them.

He's turned the ball over now something like 30 times in 23 games. In the NFL, those numbers are are killers. Most NFL people will tell you the single biggest stat is takeaway/giveaway. Every single giveaway the Dolphins have this year has been out of the hands of Ryan Tannehill. Every one.

I'm more concerned about his brain size. Seriously, does anyone know how he did on that intelligence test the players all take in school? Reason I'm going here is his seemingly profound inability to learn he's about to get killed lingering in the pocket. Anyone know if he's bright or not?

only way he holds onto that backside clean shot while scanning the field is if he's got stickem...just about any qb would fumble on that play given that impact...if they didn't they'd be damn lucky...

qb can't not trust the backside protection to pick up the edge rusher and stop looking down field looking at the rush...then it's curtains...nothing tanny could have done there...

mckinnie blew an assignment and we paid for it

So true . You want to minimize fumbles, minimize sacks

I think that's a legitimate concern.

Pretty sure he was pre-med, so yeah... Not a dummy.
