Ryan Mallett completed 9-of-14 passes for 71 yards and an interception against the Bucs in the Patriots' second preseason game.
The Pats wanted to see how Mallett would respond to adversity after having his way with the Jaguars practice squadders last week. Mallett complied, throwing a pick-six on his third throw and sporting shaky accuracy even on his completions. On a positive note, he did respond with a nice drive that ended in a field goal. Brian Hoyer was inserted mid-drive on two occasions as coach Bill Belichick tries to prepare him for in-season emergencies as the primary backup.

Vince Young today was 5/8 34 yards 1 INT

I want to praise on GM VY has looked like total crap and not a starter at all this year.

Mallet is still young and isn't ready....

I was thinking of putting up a similar thread but realized no one would care, and saying that Mallett or another is the savior of the franchise gets more discussion.

henne threw 2 ints and "booo whooo... its preseason..." vince young and mallet stinks it up as well and its " they look like crap lets praise the GM for not drafting these guys"

This. Can no one have a poor performance without out criticizing their entire career and skill set?

because if henne has a good pre season game well it will be ITS PRESEASON.

Mallet and Vince Young look good vs 3rd stringers and well all hell breaks on these forums and threads about mallet being the next star of the nfl.

this is true, and on the flipside that will say It's only preseason if Henne does well, and praise Mallett for looking good (which already happened)

In the same token though, cant somebody have a good game without being praised the next savior

Nobody wants to sit here and accept the fact that the jury is still out on both decisions and will be for a while.

Last week the praise and insanity in response to Mallet's great performance, and make no mistake about it, it was great, was jumping the gun. Just as any harsh judgement on his poor performance tonight.

I'm not a huge Mallet fan, but judging him off two Preseason Games after 2 weeks of NFL training camp whether good or bad is just dumb.

He could be great, he could be terrible, but "OMG what a mistake we made" in week 1 of preseason and "wow what genius' we are for passing on him" in week 2 of preseason are equally foolish.

For a change, sit, wait, watch, then evaluate... whatever the result is, these two weeks dont mean a thing.

At least the we should have drafted Mallet tards will be silent for one week.

Henne has more to lose than a mallet or a vince young right now. Henne doesnt have much time left so the excuses need to stop already. Vince young and mallet can stink it up all they want they will be backups on their respective teams, but henne, this guy needs to show something new quickly this is literally his last season.

on this forum, probably not. Rightly or wrongly it's just the nature of being a fan. I'm surprised a trade for Isaac Redmond thread hasn't started up.

But in all seriousness, the preseason games do help teams find players. That's how we got both Welker and Camarillo from San Diego.

Also, once again, I am not going to worry about Mallett for a while. Brady probably has 3 or 4 years left in him, and Hoyer has been locked into the backup role. Mallett is the emergency 3rd stringer for this year at least, and probably won't see meaningful minutes for the Pats (if he does at all) until Brady retires.

If/When Henne proves once and for all he is not the future of this team (which is this season) I'll look towards the QBs in the 2012 draft. Otherwise, I could care less how Mallett looks.

Vince Young has always sucked.

If VY was a Dolphin I'd be all over him and the organization like you-know-who is all over Henne and the organization.

I see what you are trying to say. First and foremost, the next comment is NOT directed at you. But there are A LOT of fans on this forum who will use this reasoning as an agenda. You atleast look at both sides of a coin. But truth be told, it really doesn't matter how anybody looks against who, people will find a reason to criticize Henne
