Saban needs to control his media mouth

It's all psycological man: nfl=90% mental, if you don't get then I dun know what... to... tell.... ya.... Thier cherries gotta break sooner or later.. Saban is just trying to make it happen sooner. It's not like he said something that wasn't true anyway.

these... guys...may .. not... even make the team.

You think a 7th rounder and a late supplemental draftee are going to magically light up in their very first training camp? I'm sorry man, that's wishful thinking. It takes time.

Saban should have the right how he is talking to the media, and i like how he is doing it. If some guys aren't doing there job, then they shouldn't be the only ones who know that. Hopefully now both of them will work harder.

Who's not doing their job? Manny perhaps, but Vickerson? Kevin Carter's comments alone should tell you the kind of job Vickerson is doing.

Yeah man.. It's almost like you get the sense from this thread like
"I wish we had Wanny back, he would never be so mean"...

I agree with Dr. Z. Saban is very calculated. He thinks that this is what these two need -- either to excel or make them drop off. He thinks that if they can't handle this humility, they can't handle being on his football team.

I think what a lot of you are missing is this. Saban doesn't give a damn if you are a #1 overall pick or the very last pick of the draft. He expects the same from everyone in terms of work ethic and commitment.

I have a feeling that what it has done is kicked Vickerson into gear. Look at what Kevin Carter is saying about the guy.

With all the different personalities on a football team, it would be naive to think you wouldn't have to micro-manage them all.

When it comes to Kevin Vickerson and Manny Wright, I think Nick Saban needs to watch what he's saying to the media. I'm serious. Look we all know Saban's every bit the opposite of a softy, but those two guys are project players, with Manny being way more "project" than Vickerson. Project players don't have a history of being necessarily mentally tough - yet. They need to be groomed in a more constructive manner. With the way Miami media salivates right now over information, because of Saban's desire to keep everything from them, they're going to blow these two guys up whenever they get something to feed on.

Kevin Carter's recent comments defending Vickerson proves such. Yet both these guys are getting blown up in the media like they're first round draft picks who are not performing up to expected first round standards. I just don't feel like referring to them as gutless trout is going to light that magical fire.

What do you all think?

Well, what I thought Saban was saying was that they had the "deer in the headlight" syndrome....Not gutless anything...he was referring to them not being mentally up to par yet...I think you miscontrued his statements...It's normal, as you say for "project" players to not have the mental side of things down at the point they are at...give it a break...Saban knows what he's doing, heck...he might even have said it to motivate one or both of them...

.......... See, you just completely strip yourself of any kind of meaning when you make stupid f*ckin' comments like that. If I had meant that I would have said that......... you act like I'd be afraid to say it to some nobody like yourself. Get over yourself man.

We can either have Saban doing what he is doing or we can have The Idiot back here fawning over the players again...

I drank the Kool-Aid LONG before Nick was "officially" the Coach....I support whatever he does without question...

Nah, this week he made the brook trout comment.......about looking into their eyes and not seeing anything behind them.

It does take time. But there are other reasons why they were draftred so late besides skill level and one of those reasons is mental toughness. It's all a part of the game. If the players aren't getting it through their thick skulls behind closed doors then maybe it's time to take it to another level, ya know? The media does also have a right to know who suckin wind out there.

Wow man.......... I make one comment and suddenly Wanna-schmuck comes back into the argument.

Calling out a player publicly is risky business. Can easily backfire. But, it's not necessarily Saban's job to get every guy on the roster to like him. Remember the last guy we had as a coach here who tried to do that? Coach Wannsomethingorother?

Kevin Vickerson and Manny Wright have a lot of pride. Having the coach say they had a "brook-trout look" in public is an embarrassment to them that they can only make up for by going out there and hitting somebody. I will say I have not seen any negative effects of the comments yet. Vickerson turning to Kevin Carter with his problems is a positive, Kevin Carter coming right out in fierce support of Vickerson is constructive for Vickerson and shows him the value of the bonds he is forming, and having Kevin Carter call you out in public in addition to your head coach may serve to help light that fire under Wright's butt.

Wright is a wad of cookie dough. If what Carter said is true, that he's quitting practices early, sitting out practices, fainting, vomiting, etc then he NEEDS to be called out. He has a lot of pride in what he has the ability to do and he needs to be smeared so that he knows that here in the NFL you can't do jack squat unless you're conditioned like the rest of them.

Exactly............calling a 6'6 330lbs+ man "brook trout" is pretty damn embarrassing when you consider what Saban meant.
