Saban vs. Boo Birds

I'm in the minority here, but I think booing is generally classless. I understand booing lack of effort, but that's it. Not saying people don't have the right, they do. But I have the right to have an opinion about their behavior.

Totally agree. It brings nothing constructive. It brings shame to all involved. Its just sad.

On the contrary, the fans who pay money to watch the games are the bosses and have every right boo or cheer. Of course, some fans are more obnoxious than others and abuse their position. Think of it like a restaurant. Ever hear the term "the customer is always right"? That is because the restaurant's well being is tied directly to the happiness of their customers. So too are NFL teams. If you're in a restaurant and you get bad service guess what you have a right to complain even if you're a fan of the restaurant and really like the restaurant and want the restaurant to do well.
Fans are NOT the bosses even though WE pay the players salaries. We fans cannot fire anyone (like bosses can). And as far as the customer is always right B.S., they just want you to come back and spend some more money.

I can't believe the amount of people on this messageboard that will take a false comment and add to it a small amount of their own guilty suspicions to justify their actions. Here is an exact quote of what Coach Saban:

''I think it's the ultimate disrespect to players if they are booed, I told our players that at halftime. At the same time, I think we all have a responsibility and obligation, myself included, for whatever happens on that field, that we play so that doesn't happen.''

Read it again if you have to. Tatoo it on your bird cage chest. Never did Saban say that he would dictate how a Fan should react to his team. He said that the teams actions would dictate how a Fan should react. If you feel guilty because you rain "boos and hisses" upon the Dolphins then keep it to yourself, don't twist Coach Saban's words to justify yourself because it is easy to see through the facade. I really don't think that Saban cares if you boo or cheer, he cares if the team performs in a way that gets cheers or boos as a result.

Hmm.

I think the fans are the players' bosses and they should be able to do whatever they want. Think of them as like shareholders of a company. They can vote out management, make the stock price suffer, etc. if they don't like what they are doing down there...and if they ever agree with each other enough to do it.

Anyone who has a significant problem with fans booing needs to face the reality that public sports have been around for a LOOOONG time and the nature of the sport has been the same since the very beginning. Players do something you like, cheer, players do something you don't like, boo. Get over it and grow some testicles. If you say that the fans should never boo the team I say the fans should never cheer them either then. Fans who attend games and pay money for their tickets pay the salaries of everyone involved in the organization. If a player on the field is not playing like he is paid millions of dollars to play like, BOOOOOOO.

Ok, now what the hell does this reply have to do with the original post? You think it's the right of the fans to boo. Cool. But that the hell does it have to do with the thread???

I don't expect to reply to this, obviously. You're your trying to make noise. But for everybody else misunderstanding this issue, it's not about whether the fans should, could, must, etc., boo. It's disrespectful to the players, that's about as far as Saban went regarding the issue. And, I gotta say, it's a pretty reasonable argument. But it's so not the point. He emphazised that it's their responsibility to play better to avoid the boos. And that should've been the story.

Not that it ever will be. Dolphins fans (myself included) are the highest maintenance fans in sports, IMO. And sport writers (not limited to the Miami area, of course) love controversy... you do the math.

And teams want you to be happy so that you'll come back and spend more money too. Same thing. In a restaurant, complaining to the management about lousy food or service is that half-step between just never going back there, allowing the management to DO SOMETHING to get them back in your good graces as a customer. At a football game, booing is the same thing. You don't like being booed? Do something about it. Do your job. Play well. That will get the fans back to cheering.

The number of sissies who take booing as some personal affront is alarming.

Couldn't think of anything original to post in a "new" thread, so you cut and paste the same exact thing you already said in another thread? Weak man.

Actually I wrote it in this thread first, and cut and pasted it in the other thread when I realized that was the thread most appropriate for it. What is weak is your personal attack. But nice try. I'm sure someone somewhere will give you a cookie for your efforts.

Agree, I come from miles away to root the Phins on. I would never boo them and I leave the game barely being able to talk. I lose my voice from rooting them on. Come on South Florida fans, stand up and make some noise!

Yes we need more noise. I can hear the difference all the way up here in Canada on my TV compared to other teams' fans.

BTW, thanks for clearing the fact that Saban is not getting on the fans Angry Guy Who Started The Thread. I'm glad to hear he's not doing that!

I'm not sure you read what Saban said. Usually you are more sensible than this. Your post, maybe, belongs in the other thread :)

(this post was entered before I reached page two of this thread, apologies CK)

Wow. Thank you to those that actually READ the first post containing Sabans unaltered quote. It's spelled out for the others yet they are too reactionary and defensive to comprehend Saban's intent.

Yeah I was speaking generally about the issue of booing, not about what Saban has said. I have always maintained that Saban probably does not feel very strongly about the booing issue and it is really only natural for him to try and get the fans to stop booing because it is not conducive to winning. That's fine. But if he's all getting up in peoples' faces about booing and how they don't have a right to boo or they aren't REAL fans if they boo, that's when we'll have a problem.

This issue came up last night I believe and I said the same thing.
