Saban's Draft Plan is impressive

I have total faith in Saban BUT remember we have to have someone to trade with. We may be stuck at #2 but I guess if we have to make the pick we cant go wrong with Edwards, Brown, or Smith, if he is there.

True, but it feels good NOT to be the team trading two 1st rounders for a nutty druggie (no matter how much I liked watching him run the ball).

Btw, Im hoping Caddy Williams is sitting at #7.

Yes it looks like at least things may go our way, because of Saban's ability to use a brain correctly!

I have never been so impressed with the Dolphins organization during the draft in all the past years. Saban has created a trade market for Alex Smith and now Braylon Edwards.

The beauty of this plan is the Dolphins win no matter what the 49ers attempt to do.

1. If the 49ers make a trade the Dolphins shall draft Alex Smith (if not selected by new team). I have been on board with Alex Smith for over a month now, no problems at all with the selection.

2. If the 49ers select Smith then the Dolphins trade down for the #7 and the #18 pick. Perhaps Caddy Williams, Ronnie Brown or Benson shall be sitting there (most likely at least one of them).

3. If the 49ers trade down and the the new team selects Smith then the Dolphins still make the trade for the #7 and #18 (minnie want Edwards).

Checkmate. Impressive Mr. Saban....impressive.

Now perhaps Carl Peterson shall just shut up make the trade for the #2 and a #4 for Surtain. Afterall Carl you're out of your league now...hehe.

Clayton reported that a trade down is not so likely. I've been saying for two months that the odds are against our ability to trade down - 75/25.

Saban is doing his best, but I just don't think it's going to happen. I love Saban's approach to the game and the team and the draft, but he's not some brilliant manipulative genius. He's a man like all the others and will be very fortunate to be able to trade down. He'll also be fortunate to get a deal with Surtain.

I'm not positive on either front - though I am hopeful it will happen.

I think it's especially true - given so many here keep putting out "mocks" with our trading down. The most realistic "mock" is one without the trades.

I will be watching with a beer in my hand! I have all the confidence in Nick that he will do the right thing! Bring it on!:beerbang:

shhh, you're gonna jinx all of it man!

You have to give credit to Nick for playing the hand he was dealt as well as is possible. He has been bluffing,raising,check-raising and doing everything possible to make this team better. I also approve of him not caving to Petersen over surtain and not caving to the lower offers for our #2 pick. If in the end we end up with Pat and the #2 I'll feel good that we didnt get punked by anyone and after the Wanny era I am tired of the dolphins getting punked.

AMEN Brother!

The best thing about this whole situation is that if the 9ers actually do carry through with their threat to take Smith (as empty as I believe it is) and Saban thinks Edwards is the best talent on the board & no one wants to trade up to get him, he'll take the guy.
I believe this will be the case regardless of the choice the 9ers take (EVEN if they trade the pick, which I believe ends up giving us even more control of the draft, dispite what Nolan wants to think) and in my opinion, he has set this up perfectly so far.
I also believe that there is alot more going on here than we can even speculate & when we are on the clock after whoever the 9ers take, people will be calling & while we may not get the total "value" that the #2 overall pick should get, we will be trading down & accumulating as many picks as we can.

It's a little aerly to rate Saban's draft plan yet, but I like the way things are shaping up. If we can ship Pat to KC for their 2nd, then trade down with Minn we could be in really good shape. Even if we're "stuck" having to pick someone at #2 it's a nice change to have confidence that the pick won't be wasted.

I have a feeling we won't hear anything about this trade with Minn until Saturday. It would be pretty dumb on their part to make a move before SF has picked. Although considering their history on draft day, it's not out of the question....

I agree. I think he's doing all he can do and it's very refreshing from the Wanny era.

Of course, bringing that up really TICKS ME OFF! It's the Wanny era that got us in this position of no draft picks. It's fine that we had a bad season - to get rid of Wanny (it's worth it!). But, he and Ricky boy had to go trade away several of our picks. Go Nick!

Just the fact that he is pissing off the media is enough for me.
