Sabans Master Plan, only A Mastermind Like Him Could Pull It Off

Thanks Bill.

This qualifies him as a mastermind? Ricky coming back reeks of trade bait.

No, him turning around the Brown's defense from WORST to FIRST in ONE year...

...AND never having a losing season anywhere he has coached...

qualifies him as a mastermind.

If you think Saban is smart you are smoking something! COme on we all know he is gonna be another Spurrier, great college coach terrible NFL coach..mark my words, that transistion will not go over well. We should talk Shula into coming back, or heck get Ditka to straightenb out our DUI boys!

Who needs Ditka?

Saban cut Q. Williams, dispensing his own brand of justice.

What good would Ditka be to us? Only good he'd be is if Ricky wanted to put the dress back on and renew the vows.

Spurrier failed because, to my knowledge, he was never even a coordinator in the NFL. He was too well schooled in the ways of the NCAA.

Saban seems to know what he's doing. There seems to be a lot more promise surrounding this team this year than last year at this time.

This may be the worst post I have ever read.

Ricky Williams will no longer be a Dolphin within the next 3 years, I guarentee it.
well, he said he only wanted to play for a couple more years. You sure you don't want to slide a little further out on that limb?

Comparing Saban to Spurrier is like comparing Billinchek to Dennis Ericson. Saban turned the Browns defense from worst to first in one year, he not only knows how to run a pro defense, he can run the best pro defense. He knows how to keep players motivated, he knows you can give players second chances but not third or fourth. Oh yeah, Scott Linehan is the best offensive coodinator in the game. All I have to say to Bills fans is that you better learn to read and buy a good book because it is going to be a looooong decade

Reading this post was like watching cute little puppies get euthenized.

Your point makes no sense! Is that better!
If you knew anything sure a rookie can get that money these guys are not rookies. If Alex. or Edge was coming along with a reasonable contracts there is NO TEAM THAT WOULDNT TRADE THEM FOR A SECOND ROUND TEAM. PERIOD! If you think that the reason that they are not getting offers is not because of there contract demands you are a real idiot and there is no reason for further discussion. If Ricky has a good season he could be had easily for a second if his contract would be reasonable.

It is very difficult and boring attempting to have a debate with someone who actually confuses themselves. Back down on the 'tude a bit, don't know why you are getting all hostile.

Your point is that it is only about contract money.

My point is that it isn't only about money and that Ricky, even though he may be less expensive, carries far more risk, than any other back. Additionally, he has a mental/medical condition that WILL NOT GO AWAY, so that is always going to be a concern and a risk of him becoming a flight risk again.

Given those COMBINED things, I would not expect Saban to get that much for him. Carrying my point over to Alexander and James, both are older, so AGE is a factor; and James has an INJURY HISTORY so there is also that factor. These two guys are in the elite in the NFL with James being arguably the BEST back in the league. When a team is willing to pay more to an unproven rookie than one of those guys, it is about more than the money - I assure you.

So let's see, that's also twice now that you've called me an idiot. I will not retaliate with name calling, but any time you want to compare academic, professional, IQ, credit rating, or any other credential please let me know and I will be more than happy to oblige.

Give in to the name calling do not. Lead you towards the dark path it will.

So given the behavior, how much trade value do you think Ricky would have when Seattle and Indy can't get rid of more psychologically stable, and arguably as talented, backs in Alexander and James?

I think Saban's plan is actually transparent and rather elementary, albeit the best one: Ricky wants to play, I'm in a freebie year, Ricky is arguably the most talented and dominant player on this team, Wannstedt screwed him, let's see what he's got.

This is a no lose proposition for Saban. If Ricky returns to form and Brown measures up, now Saban has a solid backfield this season and trade options next. If Ricky falters, then he has Brown and Gordon and he can dump Ricky next season.

Not that brilliant of a strategy. Of course, for any member of the Wannstedt regime, recognizing and executing this would have been far too mental of an exercise.

I agree with everything you say. Its not really brilliant unless you can make it happen. I think Saben thinks if he cant get to him, then noone else can either. If he turns it around and Ricky ends up like two years ago, then you have trade value or............you have a sick backfield that everyone on the face of the earth is going to regret facing every week. Quite frankly, I think it is the latter, because this money was already gaurranteed and they lost it, now there just trying to get it back and with Saban, Ricky will be willing, especially if he gets that OL going strong. Forget it......its all over!

Have Ricky come back to trade him is a great idea, but I don't know if anyone is gonna trade for him, or if they do trade a very high draft pick for him. Travis Henry/Alexander/James are available for like 2nd rd picks but noone wants to trade for them. They also want new contracts, but if Ricky is traded ya don't think he'll want a new contract? He has absolutely no value to any team besides the Dolphins so if he is traded they are not gonna get much, especially with other proven backs available.
