Safety Yeremiah Bell nowhere to be seen as Dolphins return to practice

Here's a conspiracy theory for you:

The Chargers just placed SS Bob Sanders on injured reserve. He played fully in the first two games this year but didn't play in the Chiefs game. Steve Gregory replaced him, and he's just not very good.

Yeremiah Bell is mysteriously absent from Miami practices, excused by the front office for 'personal reasons'. Those same 'personal reasons' were given when the Dolphins held Vernon Carey out of practice while they put the screws to him on his contract and told him he can either move to right guard and take a pay cut, or be cut from the roster.

Could it be that the Dolphins are in negotiations with the Chargers over Yeremiah Bell, who would occupy Bob Sanders' position? If that were the case, I could see the Dolphins not wanting to execute the trade until after this weekend's game between the two teams. However, when you're in negotiations to deal a player, it is COMMON practice in the NFL that you don't play him or practice him anymore so as to avoid injury.

It seems to me like Yeremiah Bell is the one who blabbed about Jason Taylor's locker room speeches where he scolded the team on their practice habits and all that. I don't think he did it maliciously but he had direct quotes in the papers about it. He's old but still playing solid football, more solid than Steven Gregory anyway, and everyone keeps wanting to see what Reshad Jones may have for us at Strong Safety. If Chris Clemons is returning to health at Free Safety, perhaps it's time to see what the young ones can do. We're 0-3 (all three losses in conference) and three games behind the Bills, two games behind the Jets and Patriots. The playoffs are out of the question.

Bell for Sanders?
Bell is a solid starter for a guy that can't play a whole season...makes sense to me :tubes:

wow, interesting theory. i like it.

first on the notion that bell has no value. well, when playoff teams get desperate, they give something up.

To me, Bell has dissapeared this year. I just said something to my buddy during the game that bell hasnt really shown up.

I would welcome this. Bell is getting near that stage.

"near" ?

He's already passed that stage.

There's a devious mind at work. Cool theory. Well thought out. I'd be disappointed if the coaching staff views Bell as a bad egg in that locker room. It's the younger players in that secondary whose mindset seems to need improvement. Also it makes me very uncomfortable to think Ireland feels comfortable enough to start making trades for the future. What kind of assurances has he received to feel bold enough to jettison vets for low future draft picks. Whatever the case, serious props if you hit on this.

Wow, it's time like these with Bell gone that you sort of wish you had smart choices at backup, eh Ireland?

Can't WAIT to see them suddenly go ghostly white when Henne gets hurt and they feign surprise at Matt Moore sucking. What the hell do you expect when a team has NO CONTINGENCY PLANS IN A VIOLENT SPORT?

Bell has ALWAYS been bad in pass coverage... I think he was decent in coverage before his injury in 2007 but the past 3 years he has consistently been getting burned in coverage. He gets lots of tackles but that is also partly because we are so bad at coverage up the middle has has to clean up.

I think the guy gets way too much credit here, and even when he got a pro bowl nod 2 years ago, he was no better than average.

He's been worse in coverage these past 2 years especially.

bell can lay some wood, once in awhile. bob sanders lays wood every tackle. but he's also always hurt.

funny thing as much as i like bell, the last three years or so, he has stunk up the joint in pass defense. sure he racks up tackles, that's more of our front 7's doing than bells athletic superiority... I'd be indifferent to him having a new permanent address, and if it brings a 5-6th round pick, than by all means send him packing. we need to go bill belicheck style on this next draft and have picks stockpiled instead of having to jump around.....

I thought he retired tell i seen this play.

lmao. Every time I think of Yeremiah Bell, it's always the Taco Bell *Ding* "Yeremiah Bell, Think Outside The Run"

Jesus, Culver/Caroll out there.... Starting?....
Phillip Rivers is going to have a career day.

Depth in key spots is scary. We're lucky Long is gutting through his health problems because as hard as it is to imagine, that line can get much, much worse very easily. Or how about Spitler filling in for Dansby? There are so many potential disasters on a team that's already a disaster.

thats funny cus i wasnt exactly hearing GT17 say anything in the offseason about bell not starting or should be traded. did i miss something? He was part of a 6th ranked defense last year. not sure i heard anyone saying bell should be gone like last year. but now, oh yeah! i knew all along.....lol
