Sage Rosenfels Scouting Info

The way coaches avoided him I was beginning to think that Sage had leprosy or some infectious disease for a time.

But it appears that his only apparent flaw is his lack of ambition. He doesnt seem to mind being 3rd string QB.I thought he would want to get out of Miami due to lack of opportunities (Politics or whatever) but he seemed perfectly content to accept a one year low paying contract to be 3rd string QB again in Miami.

His affability is probably scaring the coaches off.You want someone with confidence and fire at the QB position especially when the game is on the line.

This could be true.

Maybe he is just a low key guy that is basically just doing what the coaches are telling him to do.

Although, word has always been out of practice the last few years that Sage has always had the best arm out of any QBs that have been on the roster.

To me, he does look confident and in command whenever he is on the field.
He does make some mistakes though, which could possibly be corrected with experience.

We know for sure that the guy NEVER had a shot with Spielman and Wanny here. And Saban basically put the QB situation on hold since he got here, probably because he wanted to evaluate t he position first hand before investing anything significant into it (Frerotte doesnt count as significant).

My feeling is that the coaching staff now knows for sure that there is a problem at the QB position, and meddling with it from this point shouldnt be too much of a problem since Feeley and Frerotte both are not in the teams long term plans. Which may finally open the door for Sage.

I'd be more excited about this year if we were starting Sage, i like his command when he's out there and how he keeps the high tempo after an incomplete pass. I hope to some point in the season see Sage take lead and see where it takes us. IF AJ manages to make it through cuts this WILL be his last season in Miami.

Sage for having such a strong arm throws a pretty weak pass. He gets lucky a lot also that some of his passes are not picked off. i think he threw 3 picks last year when given the chance in his only start. Gus will do fine I'm sure once we start running the ball 40 times a game and he jsut has to throw the quick stuff here and there. to keep the defenses honest.

Now I don't care where Sage ends up personally. Start him if that's what looks best but I will warn you on using scouting reports to strengthen your arguement.
Ryan Leaf, Akili Smith, Joey Harrington, Andre ware, Steve walsh.. the list goes on and on of qb's that, coming ut of college graded higher than someone else.

Joe Montana, Tom Brady Jim McManhen(sp) hell even Marino was the 6th qb taken in 84. We, scouts and coaches really never know what we get until they get on he team and play.

I guess you didnt read my post.

Look at the very last line. I am in favor of no one.

Gus will do fine for a game or three, then tank it, just like he as done his whole career, wherever he's been...look at his history...

My argument for Feeley is that I still feel he hasn't had the same advantages as his competition...(last year it was a power struggle with Wanny and RS,no OL, no RBs, etc...this year it's been a 3rd scheme in two years and splitting snaps, weak OL, etc). AJ needs to be given the job and let him improve as he goes along. he is a streaky player and needs the reps to improve, if he can. Beyond the shadow of a doubt, Gus is not the long term answer. AJ could still be.

Sage has not shown much in 3 years except a good half in a preseason game where Gus and AJ both sucked so bad, that anything he did looked good. It's pretty obvious that people are enamored, this week, with Sage because Gus and AJ have stunk the joint up, not because he showed anything spectacular. In the 2nd half of that game, half the players on the field (on both teams) were fighting for their jobs...including Sage, since he knows that Couch and Rohan are sitting out there.

Let's look at the longer term here...start AJ...he'll either improve or die, then you still have Gus and Sage to fall back on...and we will at least find out for sure how poor a choice he was.

this is exactly what I have been saying for the last year.

He might not even last through the weekend.
