Salguero: Disturbing details emerge regarding owner Stephen Ross

I don't think Ross is cheap, he just wanted to slow down the bleeding in a year where there basically was no offseason. He will let his new coach spend money, and I don't anticipate this being an issue going forward. He knows that to make money he needs to have a good product on he field. He will let his new regime spend what they need to become winners.

I have a feeling that in a few years Dolphins fans are going to really love having Ross as an owner.

New season..same old dolphins

Coach Sparano "I believe" got over excited after his subpar offense scored the final field goal to go up 16 to 10 with over 2:20 and two time outs left for Cleveland. The one thing I see in the young Colt McCoy that I have yet to see in Henne is a leader and a QB that can actually lead his team downfield on a 4th Quarter comeback victory. Chad Henne just isn't the guy in Miami. He may be playing better BUT his time has arrived and he can't get the WIN. Harbaugh would've been the answer but Mr Steven Ross went about business the WRONG way!! Stop worrying about has been celebrities and maybe get a coach, new QB, and some WINS at HOME! the is all the FANS want a VICTORY!

this is what makes ross one of the worst owners in the league... top three id say

who cares if ross didn't want to open his wallet this offseason...he must have known what many of us knew anyways...and that was this team wasn't competing for anything in 2011...i'd keep my wallet shut also

much ado about nothing...only thing that is concerning in that article is ireland seems to be ross confidant...if we lose out on cowher because ireland must stay it will be yet another dumb decision to add to the 1000 it seems in the last 3 years

While a lot of what is being said here makes sense......then it sounds like there is a master plan in the works. Almost like Ross is the evil emporer Palpatine (shameless Star Wars plug).

and i don't get where salguero is sayin bryant mckinnie was too expensive...i guarantee he went to baltimore i think it was on the cheap...and likely on a 1 year deal given how he left minnesota...at least thats what should have happened

Ross not allowing Ireland to spend money could have a far more charitable interpretation. It prevented Ireland and Sparano from making the kind of decisions that handicap a team in the long-term in order to save their ***** short-term. It can also have a more sinister interpretation: Ross doesn't want to spend because he doesn't have the resources to spend. The guy's net worth was made in real estate. I can think of no business in a more precarious situation now. Ross' Related Companies are one of the biggest, if not the biggest player in South Florida condo development and if anyone knows the state of Miami's condo market it's an epic disaster. Buildings that are over-leveraged and virtually empty.

I don't claim to be an expert in such things, but I don't see how he's making money on many of his real estate holdings. The debt levels on the buildings themselves, lack of tenets and rents in the commercial sector and declining values and homebuyers in the residential sector, especially the condo niche which has been the domain of flippers trying to make a quick buck for years, and I frankly don't see how Ross isn't experiencing some financial difficulties, his net worth aside, he's got to have cash flow from the team or from his outside businesses to have the resources to chase high priced players and coaches.

Nice theory, and theoretically you're correct about "making money" but off target about losing it

in terms of spending money to make money:

He's also undertaking affordable housing in major metro areas like Hunter's Point South, the biggest affordable housing complex in New York since the 1970s. His luxe developments continue to perform well: sold out three high-end condo buildings in New York, including a $31.5 million record-breaking penthouse sale; his new 1.2 million square foot Manhattan development MiMA is more than 70% leased. He has begun work on New York City's Hudson Yards, with a plan to create a new neighborhood. So if we're gonna assume his net worth is largely tied up in RE , then since 09 he's lost all of $.1Billion and during that time he actually zoomed up 77 spots on the Richest list, so apparently the hits he's taken in RE pales by comparison to the deflation of wealth some others have taken in technology, industy, finance, etc.

Sorry, but between holding the line in the recessionary real estate market and the fact that he's still spending money to make money in his core businesses, I don't see going on the cheap here unless it's a reactive disgust, saving his acrons for a brighter day in consideration of how the regime is crapping his money away. He's certainly not hemhorraging weath.

Crazy how this story is coming out...Someone is try to shift blame..I am guessing someone who is sympathetic to Tony Sparano is the person who is giving out this rubbish. There is no way that Ross is worried about spending money...Just does not make any sense at all..He wants to win at any cost.

I always place blame at the top...

If you go to the Dentist and the Hygienist he has employed chips 3 of your chicklets and cuts your mouth who gets sued? Yea...Lawyer calls the Dentist to the stand. How is it different in this case? If the owners team stinks he is the ultimate one who is responsible...Period.

"I know one thing about these guys," Henne said, "they're not going to stop quitting."

Look at all the money Ross spent on Marshall and Dansby last offseason. Look at the reports that he was prepared to make Harbaugh the highest paid coach in the NFL. Ross is not cheap, and is not going to hold a new regime back by counting pennies. He was probably sick of seeing this regime flush money down the toilet on players like Grove, Smiley, Wilson, etc. and wanted to take the regins back on them.

Here is the thing, every year the owner sits down with his football people and gives them a budget to work in. Apparently the budget was smaller this year, but that doesn't mean it will be small next year. If Bill Cowher says, "I want X amount of dollars to spend", Ross will probably give him that.

Ross has put a lot of money into this team and stadium, and that is not going to stop. He wants to make a profit, and not spending for players will not result in a better product on the field and will not result in an overall profit. Ross could buy and sell every NFL owner except for one. I am not worried about him spending in the future, though it does appear he has quit financially on this regime.

What's really disturbing about this article is Salguero's lies about Ross' willingness to spend money on players. Salguero says "the facts that the team is approximately $8 million under the salary cap and is among the lowest four or five spending teams in the league", which is completely wrong. There are approximatley 18 teams that spent less on players salaries in 2011. Armando is just spewing his propoganda again and I dont blame Ross one bit for refusing to talk to him. Even a cursory fact check of Salgueros "facts" will show he is full of ****.

There are so many disturbing things about Ross. I honestly don't know what's worse: The fact he's sticking with Sparano, or the fact he isn't willing to spend any money. Man I wish we could package him with Ireland and Sparano and get rid of the whole lot.

I'll come back and read the article, but how exactly is he refraining from spending money? We overpaid for Marshall, we overpaid for Dansby. We tried to get Harbaugh and offered him the highest amount. This is what happens when your organization sucks. You overpay and miss out. I just don't see how Ross is cheap by any means to be honest.

The guy bought like 20k tickets or whatever it was last weekend. Whatever the situation was/is I don't think this is one of his faults.
