Salguero: Disturbing details emerge regarding owner Stephen Ross

I always place blame at the top...

If you go to the Dentist and the Hygienist he has employed chips 3 of your chicklets and cuts your mouth who gets sued? Yea...Lawyer calls the Dentist to the stand. How is it different in this case? If the owners team stinks he is the ultimate one who is responsible...Period.

"I know one thing about these guys," Henne said, "they're not going to stop quitting."

Chad Henne Sept 25, 2011

As do I, so I blame The Garbageman. After all, he's the one who promoted Wanny after JJ foisted him on us instead of doing his due dilligence regarding how he ruined The Bears, he's the one who hired Saban and gave an unproven in the big times, soon to be Peter Principled out dictator front office responsibility, then Cameron (nuff said on that one), then gave the keys to the empire to The Rancid Tuna... then to protect capital gains, he pulled a "Saban." Bottom line: glad he's gone, cause Ross can't do worse than him. Say what you want about how Ross bungled the Harbaugh situation, and you'd be right, but at least he tried to effect change, unlike Wayne who kept Wanny on several years after it was obvious to everyone but him that he needed to go.

.. may he rot in hell.

I agree...Blockbuster ownership was just as bad if not worse.

The thing I find the most disheartening about this team is that the more I learn, the less optimistic I get. It is obvious this thing is poorly run at the top and trickles downward.

Is it?

Why spend big money on players for a regime that won't be here next year? Besides it's not like Sparano would know how to utilize a talented tight end like Miller or Shockey. They can't use Reggie Bush in the proper way at all.

Yes it is. Why? Becuase you have to grab good players every chance you get. If the roster is completely devoid of talent when the new regime takes over they will have too many holes to fill. Sound familiar?

Ross knew he would be cleaning house at the end of the year. He has been told that any new coach is not going to come in if the team has salary cap issues. Most new coaches want to sign new players that fit their system, not keep players just because of salary cap hits.

It sure is tough being a NY Yankees fan, a team that will spend to win at all costs and a Dolphins fan, especially after reading that article......I'm not used to this at all!

Ross should have fired Sparano after last season rather than trying to sign a new HC before firing his current HC. That, right there, totally undermined Sparano for this season and made it a waste. If Sparano wasn't all that good last season, why would anybody think he'd improve during this one when everyone knows he's coaching on borrowed time.

We overpaid for Marshall, we overpaid for Dansby. We tried to get Harbaugh and offered him the highest amount. This is what happens when your organization sucks. You overpay and miss out.

How did we overpay for Marshall? He has a guarantee of $24 million over 5 years. He was given a a $5.5 million signing bonus, and had a base salary of $4 million in 2010. His base salary for 2011 and 2012 is $6 million each year. This is actually pretty cheap for a good WR. The 5year/$50 million deal you reported in the papers is not what Marshall will actually earn. Its all backloaded, which justs forces us to renegotiate the deal or cut him at the end of his contract. Same thing with Dansby. Inflated contract, but the actual amount of cash he receives is no where near the repoted contract amount.

this gets more rediculous by the minute.

the players that were passed up were because tony and company are all about ex cowboys that they are familiar with. they have fasano, ex cowboy [who seems to be having a decent year] who up until now wasnt anything special, but, hes a cowboy and that loyalty tops all. be loyal to "your guys" as was was bill parcells life long mantra. tony and jeff seem to be following that philosophy religiously.

marc columbo? the absolute consensus WORST rt against the pass in the nfl? hmmmm, why him over mckinney and other tackles in f/a? ex cowboy. 1 is a coincidence, 4,5,6 is a PATTERN!

ROSS PUBLICALLY gave a blank check to ireland and sparano to bring in who they wanted. and, they did just that! all ex cowboys. they happened to come cheap because NO ONE WANTED THEM other than the old cowboys staff in place in miami!!!

for the last friggin' time, the ORTON deal NEVER GOT PAST ORTON! there was never any meetings with denver brass, NO money or terms were discussed as orton wanted to stay in denver and was only noodling the broncs by talking with the dolphins. so, if ross and denver never had talks, how was there any money held back by ross in that deal?

after last year, after the team colapse, after the harbaugh embarrassment that tarnished ross integrity, after publically saying he believed in sparano and ireland he tells them to sand bag the team and not spend any money? really? come on people. if someone told armando his birth mother was really a man, he would fall for it and report it. and whats worse? many of his readers would obviously believe it to.

i have some issues with ross for sure, keeping sparano and ireland, the harbaugh embarassment, but sand bagging his team, telling fans he was doing everything for the team but behind the scenes is PURPOUSLY cutting their throats [in an obama fast and furious kind of way] i dont believe it for one second. he is a kazillionair. he likes to win, at EVERYTHING, and when you take on a sports team, you have now attached there wins and losses to your other biz interests. if the team suffers and folks are mad it could spill over to some of his local interests. its human nature to not do biz with a guy who you believe is ruining your life long team! the dolphins are a business venture for ross and winners dont want losing ventures in their portfolio. and they sure wont do it on purpous!!!!

ross's big mistake was not firing tony and jeff after last year and then persuing harbaugh and other gm's and coaches. he wants a winner! he knows that in any biz, you have to give money to get results. sand bagging his own biz interest would get him nowhere.

lets not get sucked into rediculous media hype stories.

the truth is no one really knows what happened with orton. the fact is and it has been widely reported that Orton wanted a log term deal - he does not have one from denver. the reason we never got passed orton was b/c ross/ireland did not want to ink him long term.

What has he done significantly since he's been here? His 5 TD total? You forgot to factor in the 2 2nd round picks. Only thing that comes to mind is droppe TD and a personality disorder. Oh, and a stabbing.

Ross might not want to talk now, but he cannot run forever. That’s because he’s as responsible for this mess as anyone.

Ross, you see, was quite happy before the season that the Dolphins didn’t spend large amounts of money for talent.

Everyone in the NFL knows the Dolphins were bleeding money before they started bleeding losses, and that Ross was more than thrilled the club took a conservative approach to free agency to keep costs down.

Some people are going so far as saying Ross ordered the Dolphins’ personnel department to put the reins on spending for talent.

If that is correct, and one highly placed Dolphins source insists it is, the facts that the team is approximately $8 million under the salary cap and is among the lowest four or five spending teams in the league make a lot more sense.

Against that background, the fact that the club never really chased any of the high-priced tight ends that were on the market before the season makes sense. Now we understand the logic behind Miami only touching base with high-priced tackle Bryant McKinnie — who could have upgraded Miami’s turnstile offensive line — but never seriously pursuing him.

The Dolphins couldn’t afford McKinnie. Or Zach Miller. Or Greg Olsen. Or Jeremy Shockey.

And now we understand yet another reason why Kyle Orton wasn’t brought to Miami to make the quarterback competition with Chad Henne a legitimate one.

Yes, it was a little about faith in Henne.

But it was mostly about money and not wanting to spend it on Orton.
