Reasons Brian Gaine should not get the job.

1. He was Ireland's right hand man.
2. He has a poor track record of evaluating talent at most positions except for DE.
3. He won't bring fresh ideas from another culture/organization
4. He wasn't a former player and won't get the same type of respect from players.
5. He seems to be a yes man/organizational puppet.

Go ahead. Flame away.....

I dont see how gaine had a poor track record as a scout we have no idea exactly what record any of these candidates have.. thats the issue with picking a fav

Philbin brought fresh ideas from another culture... people hate him. Why does a gm need to be an ex player?

All I know about gaine is he is well thought of around the league and despite being part of an unpopular miami staff earned multiple external interviews

Should gain get the job? No idea. But he doesnt strike me as a better or worse candidate than the other names

Gaine was the top scout. He is the one that recommended Dallas Thomas, Daniel Thomas, Egnew, and many many other disasters. He is the one who sold the organization that Roberto Wallace was going to be a player so WR was not a priority two years ago.

It's always better when the GM is a former player because they can spot things such as instincts, awareness, heart, a lot better than non players. They are also far more knowledgeable on schemes and spotting players that fit what coaches want. Finally, players would respect a former player's criticism of them a lot more.

Thats an awful lot of assumptions

A lot of people have been clamoring for Gaine to be our GM the last couple years, now all of the sudden he is public enemy #1. I think the guy is moving up and will eventually get a GM spot somewhere, if that happens to be Miami, I won't be opposed. I hear him being highly spoken of many times outside of fin nation. I think it boils down to his name being dragged through mud because fans still have a bad taste in their mouths from the season and relate Gaine to being Ireland's trained dog. I am sure Gaine has had his own vision for this team since he has been here and has seen the mistakes first hand. I would also expect him to have a different plan for the future of the dolphins.

Gaine has also worked for the Jets, with whom he spent time on the practice squad in 1996 as a tight end. He also was on the Giants practice squad, and went to camp with Kansas City the following year. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/06/28/dolphins-promote-brian-gaine-to-assistant-gm/

You can back all of this up?

I thought Ireland was the one picking players that everyone wanted fired...now it's all Gaine?

If indeed Farmer, Gaine, and Hickey are finalists. It's clear that Brian Gaine is BY FAR the best hire. Would rather have Xanders (or have had Licht), but Gaine would be the clear cut best choice amongst the aforementioned finalists.

Listening to several interviews of Farmer and I'm very impressed. He talks about mental toughness, character, instincts quite a bit. I'm not sure Gaine would know how to spot those things in a college player considering all the softies the Dolphins have drafted since he's been here.

yeah, because he never saw those things as a PLAYER. Do your due diligence before you make claims, like Brian Gaine was never a player. When he was on the Jets and Giants Practice Squad. It just makes you look like a complete dumbass.

He never put on an NFL uniform, therefore he was never a player. Practice squad = intern job.
