Schefter: Kubiak high on Fins radar

Did you see my previous post on who his top rushers and receivers were in Houston? Kevin Walter? I watch a lot of football and I didn't even know who that was. 7th rounder drafted by the Giants out of EASTERN MICHIGAN. Real blue-chipper there. Steve Slaton? The corpse of Ron Dayne? Johnson and Schaub have also been injured a LOT.

As for Arian Foster, do you think he's an amazing talent, or do you think that maybe Gary Kubiak knows how to get production out of guys? Because let's flash back here:

He made Brian Griese a Pro Bowler. He got 1100 yards out of Olandis Gary. How about Mike Anderson? 1500 yards with a 5.0 average. Mike Anderson. 1200 yards out of Reuben Droughns. He literally got a better rushing season out of Reuben Droughns than we could get out of Ronnie Brown, Reggie Bush, or Lamar Miller. He's a bad coach?

Yeah, look at those all star blue chip players he's worked with his entire career. When he did have great talent, Clinton Portis rushed for 3,000 yards in two years. That was with the 'amazing' QB play of Brian Griese and Jake Plummer.

It's utterly stunning to me that anyone looks at the offenses of Gary Kubiak's teams through his career and thinks "Yeah, those guys were loaded with all pro talent." They weren't. Some poor team is going to shell out a ton of money for Ben Tate in free agency and find that out real fast.

People dont get it I guess because they have their blinders on!!! He has been a GREAT OC in the past...many, many, many productive years of offensive stats. His system was so sound that vertually ANYONE could play RB their, and dont even get me started with the OL and QB play as well. You stated it better than I ever could. He could make chicken salad out of chicken **** on the offensive side of the ball. He is an extremely smart and creative offensive mind. We would be crazy not to bring him in as OCif we had the chance. IMO he is one of the best OC of all time!!!!

Hell, you or I would be an improvement over Sherman.

If you can say the words "QB sneak" on 3rd/4th and short then you are automatically more qualified than Sherman.

GK has always had good OLs. Is this coincidence or can he help this team build a decent one for a change?

I like him as a potential option at OC. And typically, most HC that get fired either go away for a year or return as OC' or DC's for at least a year or two before trying a HC gig again. Reid was an exception to the rule. I think most teams with openings are going to go for up and coming OC/DC's rather than HC's that just got fired. Thing is, are we willing to wait for him to not get a HC job and come here for a OC job. That could be at least 2-3 weeks?

So you guys want to go back to being a check-down sally type of offense?

I personally do not want Kubiak here.

Check down sally? Is that how you would describe an offensive system that has resulted in the quarterbacks shattering their personal best yards per attempt seasons playing in his system?

Jake Plummer's personal best YPA was 6.4 until he got to Denver. He had a couple of seasons where it was around 5.5, which is just straight up garbage. In three seasons under Kubiak it jumped to 7.2, 7.8, and 7.4 Which is really good. In his last season in Denver, after Kubiak went to Houston, it plummeted back to 6.3.

Incidentally, this is why I think YPA is a laughable stat for trying to determine the individual skill of the quarterback. Offensive scheme matters.

If we can get the o-line fixed and we bring in Kubiak, I can see Lamar Miller being really huge down here.

Id take him or kyle shanahan in a heart beat. They run a zone blocking running scheme that would fit lamar miller perfectly or whoever else they plug in there like they have in the past. We would finally have a running game

Why bother? Gary Kubiak can turn Daniel Thomas into an 1100 yard back with a 4+ YPC average.

Don't believe me? He did the same damn thing with Ron Dayne. A guy who was basically Daniel Thomas before Daniel Thomas was Daniel Thomas.

This is a main part that people dont seem to understand. Youget Kubiak and the focus now shifts from the importance of gettign another RB. Thomas and miller would be a good 1 /2 punch in his offense. the focus can be on O-LINE and LB.

Further the offense is Tanny friendly - it would take full advantage of the things that Tankk do best.

lastly Kubiak has been a HC for severl years and can help Joe out with information and experiences

Just seems like an all around win for Miami

It wont happen all at once a major overhaul of the offensive line is going to be the key to getting things moving in the right direction. Me personally i like to chuck the ball all over the field "Spread em N Shred Em" but it is important to be able to run the ball at the end of the game so it is important.

He's apart of that great wco lineage and has had some good results in the NFL, but again......... Do we have the pieces to get it done in this type of offense?

Our last wco guy failed.. badly. How much was that ALL on his playcalling/bad set cadence and how much was that on our personnel not being able to play in the scheme. These are the things that bother me about going with GK. RT can be really good at times and crap some others, but he is getting better and only in his 3rd year, so that's a wash. Our RB didn't have ANY chance of running or showing much due to the line, but we have the same size back and skill set in Miller than he had to run his offense (Dayne, Moreno, Foster, Davis, ) All around 5'10 230'ish (except Foster 6'1) and speedy, so that's a plus. Our Oline is the MAJOR issue imo. We don't have a Winston, Myers, Smith, Brown, Hamilton, Nalen, Foster, Lepsis, Carlisle etc... We just have Pouncey...... He had killer O'lines everywhere he went.

We just might end up being the 2011 Texans, if that at all.

There were several issues with both personnel and coaching when it came to our WCO under Sherman. Honestly it was almost if Sherman was not quite sure what he wanted to run. There were times I'd see us line up and say "That's a lot like what Sherman ran in Houston" but there were other times it seemed as if he made it up on the fly.

You need to be able to run the ball late in the season when you play in Buf, NY and NE not to mention playoffs, especially when you don't have a HOF QB.

Yeah, the playcalling decisions were very Dan Henning'esque. Like he just put his finger over a play and decided to run it. No real rhythm to any of it. When we were gelling in the pass game he would call a run play, when the backs were making good runs he would try for a 5 yard pass. It was all backwards.
