If today’s spring game is any indication, the Dolphins defense is ahead of the offense.

Receiver Mike Wallace disagrees, saying the offense out plays the defense when the media isn’t around. Maybe he was kidding. Maybe not. But at least in today’s scrimmage, the defense broke out.
The Dolphins had eight sacks, led by Olivier Vernon’s 2.5. New left tackle Branden Albert was beaten at least twice.
Albert said afterward that he didn’t know much about Vernon before arriving in Miami. Now, he knows him well.

But on offense the star was Jarvis Landry. He had five receptions for 67 yards and nearly scored a touchdown. He did fumble a kickoff but recovered it.

8 sacks in what...a 1 hour scrimmage???...

would love to see the snap count to individual sacks given up spread sheet from today...be some ugly numbers

No kidding. If Tannehill is going to be the franchise QB I know he can be we need WAY better offensive line play this year.

So excited for Landry. Cant wait to see how he performs in pads. Looks like Hazel has been making some plays too. Our slightly below average Olivier Vernon, seemed to be tearing it up today.

Sounds like Tannehill did alright, except for a fumble:

Tannehill has 191 yards, TD during scrimmage

DAVIE, Fla. (AP) — Ryan Tannehill completed 18 of 27 passes for 191 yards and a touchdown with a lost fumble during a scrimmage Thursday on the last day of the Miami Dolphins' minicamp.

Rookie wide receiver Jarvis Landry was Tannehill's favorite option, catching five passes for 67 yards and leaving a strong impression on coach Joe Philbin and his teammates.

"He's displayed good instinct and good natural football playing ability," Philbin said. "He has good play speed and he's pretty decisive when he's out there. At this stage of his career it's not surprising that he may not be doing everything quite by the book exactly how you'd like it to be done, but what he does he does fast.

"So if you're decisive at least the quarterback's not going to get tricked and he catches the ball so he's quarterback friendly in that regard, too."

How hard is it to maintain blocks without pads?

Wondering if this contributed to the high number of sacks.

Binns sounds like he had a good three days.

Fairly damn hard.

O-line has nothing to "grab" onto or slide hands under when impact blocking.

Chill, everyone, they're not even wearing pads. When TC stars, Albert will not be schooled by anyone. He's a vet and a pro, he'll be fine. This is good for the OL to go against these guys. We are going to have a great outside rush.

1. The offence is new and they are still adjusting, and will continue to adjust through preseason and even into the season. IMHO - it really won't be until the 2nd half / 4th qtr of the season that things will be second nature - that's just the way football is when installing a new offence.

As a result, there's going to be an element of hesitation and reaction times are slower to start with but will speed up with time/reps. Be patient and look for the keys, not the outputs in the early days.

2. If I'm not mistaken - they're still not in pads. Discussion points are going to be very different once the pads come on.

i.e. Will Dallas Thomas continue to get the amount of reps at LG or will he be schooled by the Threesome at DT. - what will Billy Turner do with his allegedly nasty demeanour? Same for Shelly Smith. Miller v's Moreno - will all the backs be making these positive gainers up the middle when they are actually going to be tackled?

One thing I am very interested in - even as an Offensive guy - is... how do Delmas and Finnegan change the face of this team into a more physical one.... I have high expectations for these two in as far as being tone setters.

2nd round pick failures are over with jarvis landry...team finally got one that's ready to contribute from the get go...
