He was better in press coverage than zone but he still was the worst "high profile" player at the corner position ever to wear a dolphins uniform. A dumb player who could never make a play on the ball - even when it hit him right in the chest. Can't tackle either. He had 5 interceptions in 63 games played for us while opposing teams picked on him mercilessly - he's pathetic. The sad thing is: we could of had both. Coaches could not figure out that if you leave Smith in man coverage, he does pretty well. Zone, not so well.
Exactly - he was awful. Whiffed on open field tackles every week. The non-play on the ball vs the 8 inch smaller TY Hilton play comes to mind last year. Smith was full of these gems. Complete and utter garbage. I said when he was a FA that I didn't want him back if he came "free". He's a dumb player, doesn't make plays (5 INTs in 63 GP for us), can't tackle and has what I like to call "loser-itis" - basically the profound ability to do something completely stupid at the most inoportune moments. Good riddance and never come back Mr Smith.I guess everyone wants to forget Sean's weekly boner play, where right on schedule his brain would leave his head while his body committed some stupid infraction or poor play, ending up big for the other team. Sometimes even more than once in a game.
Addition by subtraction; we're way better off without him.
As far as the occasional good play, remember: even Ted Ginn (6 TDs in 6 seasons) had his good plays. Twice.
