I was overly anxious to fix most of the OL in the first few days of FA. I was told by some to be patient. Well, after seeing the end result of what we ended up with on the OL, and FA overall. I have to second guess what Hickey has done. I also have to believe that IF Ireland had done the same, more would be doing the same. A closer look.

OL- We overpaid Albert at $9M a year, and got Smith for $2.8M a year. IMO, we could have had Collins for $6M and Asamoah for 5M, and still had Smith. So, we could have filled 3 spots for $2M more. I would have preferred that.

CB- We got a good deal on Grimes but overpaid Finnegen at $5.5M a year. We could have had Verner, who I targeted to replace Grimes (almost as good last year), for $5M in place of Finnegen.

S- We got Delmas for $3.5M, and could have kept Clemons for less than half that.

RB- We got Moreno for $3M, and Blount went for $1.9. Debatable.

DT- We got Starks for $6M, and Mitchell for $4M. DT is very deep and talented in this draft. We could have signed one, and drafted another, saving a few Mil. Debatable.

Overall, I'm not overly impressed with what Hickey has done to this point but, we shall see.

I'm Pretty happy. Moreno is perfect for this offense a much better fit then Blount. Earl Mitchell is a stud in the making. Allows us to address other positions in the draft. Finnegan was overpaid there's no doubt but lets see what Coyle does with him. Delmas is a good player better then Clemons. Fox is a good gamble on as a RT very cheap and talented if he can be healthy. To each his own i think we can fill 2 starters on the line in the draft. And be set

Just wait and see how it plays out before being disappointed.

The DT's are terrible in this draft and many will not help right away. Dennis did great with his FA work on the lines.

It's good to be fiscally responsible but the cap is 10 mil higher this year and 10 higher next year. Well aren't paying a QB 100 million yet. We are well off

I agree with you on Delmas and Finnegan. Starks and Mitchell were solid deals. Albert was a must.

i was not impressed with his free agency work overall...to be determined on the draft

You say that you would've paid "this guy and that guy"...you can't get every single player you go after. With the cards he was dealt, I am content with what our rookie GM has accomplished so far. It's easy for all of us to say how we would've done it, but it just isn't realistic.

Same should be said for those over hyping the new additions to the roster.

Moreno is the latest flavor of the month, receiving such glory from some here.

As I said Moreno and Delmas was debatable, and I like Mitchell and Fox as well. My main problems were the OL, and paying Finnegen more than Verner, who I really like.

I'm having more and more doubts that the OL will be fixed tin this draft, which is why I really thought we needed one more legit starter in FA.

I wish we would have gotten another quality RT in FA. I still don't like the idea of a rookie Tackle on the line at RT. We're saying its a make or break year for Tanny and Philbin but will probably throw a rookie out there when we could have gotten a proven commodity for 5-6 mil a year. A learning curve could have a negative impact on the start of the season.

I don't think anybody who watched the Dolphins last year would say that we overpaid Albert, he was the best available! Just like Wallace was the best available wide receiver last year. Now I personally would have preferred Eugene Monroe but thats me though.

You are right the Finnegan deal is a head scratch er but lets wait and see. I think Hickey has done a fine job thus far, lets just wait and see how he does in the draft.

call me a conspiracy theorist, but I think some of the overpaying had to do with Miami's current public image. We're not a particularly well-received team in the news and media, and some players may think there needs to be a little more incentive to play here rather than another less-scrutinized team and fan-base.

I honestly don't know why we gave Finnegan the contract that we did. There must have been something in those negotiations that was out of Hickey's power.

What changed from a month ago when you started threads mentioning the Dolphins being loaded on D and the O-line being much better?

Just wait and see how it plays out before being disappointed.

Immediately after Dustin Keller was injured some members of this forum were quick to exclaim the same attitude. "Just wait, we dont know anything yet, you all arent medical professionals!". Some of us just responded "obvious injury is obvious".

Yes, there are times when you have to wait to see how something plays out. Dion Jordan, a guy who doesnt lack talent but needs polish and time to recover from an injury, is one of those situations. The majority of our free agents arent.

Cortland Finnegan was a botched signing. Anyway people want to look at it. Not only is he old and injury prone, there is more than enough evidence to show he was a sharply declining player. And even if people want to ignore all of that, we could have saved millions by waiting a few days. Just a terrible signing no matter how long we wait to evaluate it. Even if he turns into the next Brent Grimes it still wont excuse throwing away money unnecessarily.

With the exception of perhaps our defensive tackles, the rest of the decisions fall under the "problem could have been fixed in a better way had we made a different decision" category.
