Second Guessing Hickey?

i think verner was a bit more than what we were looking for at corner with Jamar Taylor hoping to develop into something worthy of his draft selection.....thus finnegan signing made sense because he brought something unique to the table outside of his play (because he sure wasn't going to get paid based off of that), and that's his attitude. that is something that was seen as valuable to our coaches whether we like it or not. did we overpay for his bark? yea if you ask me, but if he has any bite left there is a chance no one is complaining of this signing come mid-season.

i could care less what the national media says about our free agent period...they probably said we hit it out the park last year with our disaster free agent signees and bad contracts
So you do care what they say?

I remember the national perspective being kind of mixed and some of it pretty harsh last off season. Again, not saying we need to care what the outside world thinks. I was just pointing out that while most like what Miami has done, a lot of the team's fans have a completely different outlook. Just thought it was interesting. Makes you wonder.

Collins has never been a full time starter and nobody was chasing Monroe. Albert was easily the top LT in free agency

Lol whatever the media says the fans says the opposite. I'm pretty sure the media hated last year while fans loved it. That should tell you how this year went when the fans hate it. Probably a good sign

I don't think anyone has said they hated what Hickey has done so for. Saying a couple of the moves were questionable I think is fair.

No matter they are Dolphins now so I hope they are all super stars next season.

I was overly anxious to fix most of the OL in the first few days of FA. I was told by some to be patient. Well, after seeing the end result of what we ended up with on the OL, and FA overall. I have to second guess what Hickey has done. I also have to believe that IF Ireland had done the same, more would be doing the same. A closer look.

OL- We overpaid Albert at $9M a year, and got Smith for $2.8M a year. IMO, we could have had Collins for $6M and Asamoah for 5M, and still had Smith. So, we could have filled 3 spots for $2M more. I would have preferred that.

CB- We got a good deal on Grimes but overpaid Finnegen at $5.5M a year. We could have had Verner, who I targeted to replace Grimes (almost as good last year), for $5M in place of Finnegen.

S- We got Delmas for $3.5M, and could have kept Clemons for less than half that.

RB- We got Moreno for $3M, and Blount went for $1.9. Debatable.

DT- We got Starks for $6M, and Mitchell for $4M. DT is very deep and talented in this draft. We could have signed one, and drafted another, saving a few Mil. Debatable.

Overall, I'm not overly impressed with what Hickey has done to this point but, we shall see.

Im disappointed that we did not do more with oline.

This where I stand. Alot of players brought in with a history of injuries on the oline.
Something, that has not worked in recent memory when dealing with the oline.
But some how, to others this is hate. When its just being wary of recent failures.
I, guess I shouldn't be surprised at the poppy smelling rose colored glasses this time
of year.

You people do realize that Miami can sign players AFTER the draft right? Seriously, Hickey got what he needed to go into the draft and not have to reach. He got a Left tackle which was a must. We have 3/5 of the line set and solid depth with Garner, Brenner, yeatman, and Fox. He will address the other 2/5 and if needed sign a clabo, winston, or other guy AFTER the draft. People need to relax and let things play out.

I don't buy the idea that they could have had Alterraun Verner for less money than Finnegan. For starters, Verner is making almost $1 million per year more in Tampa Bay than what Finnegan is making in Miami. Plus, while it was presented as a two year deal for Cortland, it is really just a one year contract that Miami can pull the plug on after this season. Second year is pretty much fluff to make it look bigger then it actually is.

Plus Miami wasn't really looking to sign a long term starter in free agency to go opposite Grimes. Finnegan offers veteran leadership and is a transition player for the likes of Jamar Taylor and Will Davis. Those two are why the team went for a veteran on a short contract instead of a big money long term deal.

you should be..elephant in the room and a guy with like 8 starts in 4 years a guy that signed for pretty much vet minimum cause the lions gave up on him ever staying healthy and a top paid left tackle when you needed pretty much a complete do over both with the starting unit and maybe the depth...

oline blows this season blame the staff...they'll deserve it...i'm tired of waiting around for this lot to wake the **** up and get some things right

Some don't care for this but, Verner was #17 from PFF, and #3 from NFL giving up a QB rating of 55.8 with 5 picks. Finnegen was #109 of 110, and #107 from the NFL. Take from that what you will.

Didn't PFF rank Jimmy Wilson like a top corner. Number 7 or something outrageous.

You wish he had that many starts lol. He has played in 12 games in 4 years and started 3. Based on this some say here that he is this very talented guy that is just unlucky not injury prone.
This is guys is the very definition of injury prone and hasn't played enough for anyone to say , yea he is pretty good when healthy. As of now he would probably be the right tackle but within the time I type that he will probably hurt himself.

This guys should go into acting and try to get a part in unbreakable 2 as Mr Glass's son trying to get revenge

I have to believe the same. The overpaying for Albert and Finnegen, with 2-3 holes still left in the OL would have lit up the forum. Funny how a name change makes a difference. lol

It's not the name change, it's that hickey hasn't called dez bryants mom the who're that she is in public!
