Second Guessing Hickey?

We had money and fixing the line was more important than possibly upgrading safety.
Our line was one of the worst last year. Brenner, GArner, Shelly yea not great options.

All have started...and will most likely fill one of the guards

Not every lineman has to be a star (though I wouldn't go into next season with both guards being one of the 3 mentioned)

The Dolphins needed a safety (Clemons was a free agent) and the team didn't exactly break the bank for him....especially if you consider the team still has enough money to sign a lineman.

all i know is delmas is out of position a lot...seems to me that when he does get beat he gets housed...primarily cause he gets too nosy and out of position...although not being able to practice during the week probably plays into it

i would not though come out and say that's an auto upgrade at the safety position

Even if it is a wash....it is still not a waste...

if you ask me the team still needs a starting safety...so i don't really think we filled anything there

The Albert signing is debatable and the results will be what happens the next couple years.

I love the Earl Mitchell replacement of Soliai as I see him as an emerging player that helps with pressure up the middle.

I like the gambles on Finnegan and Delmas for the attitude they will bring and potential if they stay healthy.

I believe Hickey must have been looking at the depth of O-lineman in this draft and the lack of depth at NT in the signings made on the lines.

Overall...I'm going to reserve judgement until I see the final picture....its too early to rush to judgement.

I agree, but I still think he's an upgrade over Clemons, and I'll even take it a step further and say we need 2 starting safeties - Reshad Jones is not the long term solution to his position.

We had 4 linemen that's startd last year that sucked, so by that logic should one feel good if we had just brought them back.
ALll 3 yes have filled in as starters but none have them have been good or even average starters. I agree every lineman doesn't have to be a star
but they should be viewed as good enough to be more than a fill in starter

You should read my posts as I already said that I wouldn't want more then one of those three starting....

I misread the Verner contract as 5 years instead of the 4 year, $25M it was. It's makes no difference in wanting him over Finnegen. I agree that Taylor needs to play, and like him but, also look at Grimes being over 30, and Verner at 25 or 26. Having 3 good CB's for the next 2-3 years would not be a bad thing.

I like the Shelly signing but, we needed one more legit starter on the OL, not every FA just one, going into the draft. Beadles was overpriced, Schwartz was not a great fit, Saffold we tried but, Oak went crazy. We could have come back in when they negated his deal for $5.5- $6M, and had a legit starter at OG or RT.

We did what we could on Streiff but, he did not want to be here. I firmly believe we could have had Asamoah for $5M. Deitrich-Smith was a reach with Pouncey moving to OG, and we took a shot at the Jets RT (can't recall his name) and did not go high enough.

All I wanted was one of the above to go with Albert and Shelly, not far fetched, and I would be a happy camper with the OL. I find it hard to believe that there is anyone here who would not want one of the above, and thought it to be "Mission Impossible" to get one. JMO.

Glad to see you got a chuckle. However, I based my thread on what I knew on Collins and Verner saying they wanted to come here, and thinking Asamoah would take an extra half a Mil to do the same. This is saying that I wanted 3 players we did not sign, and 2 saying they want to be here. Nothing to do with the rest, other than paying more for Asamoah.

My second guessing is based on results/facts coming out of FA, which is not nothing, and Hickey still looking to sign Streiff at the end of it. I do agree with him in trying but, should have done a bit more earlier. My interpretation seems to be the same as Hickey's, as he was also wanting for one more on the OL before the draft.

Them being available doesn't mean Miami could've and would've signed all 3. That just isn't how it works. No one's mock drafts will ever be 100% accurate nor would anyone's FA predictions be either because there are too many variables.

true unfortunately we will have one guy who shouldn't be starting starting at the very least

If he is the only weak link and stuck between Albert and Pouncey I think they will be fine...

maybe , maybe not.
I don't think he is an upgrade to either guard we had last year, I wonder if people would be this excited if we had signed Harvey Dahl who started over him, I doubt that very much

Agreed. We got Albert early, which negated Collins, which was OK. As far as I know, we did not go after Verner, which I thought we should have, and worthy of second guessing in my opinion. Coming up with one more starter on the OL is/was my major concern, and Hickey going after Streiff late makes me believe it was his as well.

I'm not assuming Shelly starts....I'm hoping who ever wins the position is at least serviceable...and for one of the line positions serviceable should be fine....the problem last season is McKinnie was the serviceable player and everyone else was below that. I also don't see this "excitement", but I do believe that solid camp competition (something the Phins lacked last year) will turnout at least one more starter.
