Mikel ran 4.73 at his pro day on his own turf which is notorious for fast times that’s more level with a 4.8 combine time. That doesn’t exactly scream closing speed in space. They say he played at 60 percent in 2024 but I’d like to see a faster time in a top 15 pick.

That’s closer to 10 yard box type time if you flush the qb you don’t really have the speed to finish.

I’ve thought about it at length you could swing for the fences here with Stewart for sure and at 280 lbs his bend isn’t bad but it’s a pure projection if he’s ever gonna develop that outside shoulder win as a pass rusher on the edge and when you kick him inside in the sub at 280 you got a bit of a tweener. Nothing about his game says 5 tech to me I think he’s more base set take advantage of that poa play in even fronts and kick inside in the sub package guy. Think a more twitched up and explosive Emmanuel ogbah usage wise and less Calais Campbell

Yes, you are probably right. Stewart or Mykell would be a Big Edge in the 3-4, which is our base package and only a hand on the ground DE in a four-man front. Chubb and Phillips are both similar in being big Edges. That may make them less on the radar for Miami at 13. Harmon as a one-for-one replacement for Calais is probably more likely. The pick at 13 should be someone who could get heavy starter snaps.
Harmon, Grant, or Nolen if it's defense at 13. With Membou and W. Campbell likely gone, Banks or Zabel if we go offense.
I'm firm that it must be all beef for the first three picks. Reinforce the trenches.

I'm trying to envision the starting base front 7. Assuming all are healthy, it should be Phillips and Chubb at OLB.
Brooks and Dodson at ILB. Sieler is one DE, and Benito as the NT. The other DE is the vacant spot. Who in the draft would best be suited for that position? On passing downs, Chop comes in, Benito exits, and Phillips most likely slides inside to make room for Chop out wide. For that vacant DE spot on the 3 man line, wouldn't Mykell be underweight? Stewart, if he is up to 290, it could work. Harmon seems like he could be ideal.
Granted, we'd also like to upgrade Benito, but there are several run-stuffing big men we could target after the 1st Round.

I mean a more explosive and twitched up Ogbah is a pretty damn good player…his peak was 9 sacks so let’s say more explosive version gives 12-14 sacks a year and stout at setting at the edge and can kick inside on sub package downs. Basically a 3 down player

For pick 13 across from Chop definitely worth the value and pretty much exactly what we’d need if he pans out

EDGEs Shemar Stewart, Texas A&M and Micah Parsons, Dallas Cowboys​

No player has improved their draft stock more in the past few months than Shemar Stewart. Not only was he the most dominant player at the Senior Bowl, but he also followed it up with one of the best NFL Scouting Combine performances we’ve ever seen. Measuring in at 6-foot-5 and 267 pounds, the Texas A&M product had a Myles Garrett-like showing, running a 4.59-second 40-yard dash with a 40-inch vertical and a broad jump of 10 feet, 11 inches.

There are questions about Stewart’s game from a production standpoint, as he never generated more than 1.5 sacks in a season at Texas A&M. While there is room for him to improve his pass-rushing toolbox, Stewart will enter the NFL as an elite run defender from day one. He ranked in the top five among all edge defenders with an 88.2 PFF run-defense grade last season.

Micah Parsons has established himself as one of the best pure pass rushers in the NFL. He has generated at least 70 pressures in each of his four seasons in the league while earning a PFF pass-rush grade of 91.6 or higher every year.

The Cowboys desperately need to improve their defense, particularly against the run. Last season, their 48.5 team PFF run-defense grade ranked 30th in the NFL. Stewart’s presence would immediately improve the unit in that regard while allowing Parsons — who is most effective when pinning his ears back and getting after the quarterback — to play to his strengths more freely.

I think Mikel is more of a true every down edge. Similar use to Travon Walker but in a less explosive package. But I’m with you that Harmon is probably the more ideal replace for Calais Campbell’s role fit than anyone else that high.

I also like where your heads at with those on the los options at 13.

Harmon reminds me a bit of a cam Heyward type. Who has turned out to be a hell of a pro. Like Harmon I think while he did everything well coming out he lacks an elite trait. It’s easy to project heavy snaps impact there though. And from 1 to 5 tech usage even.

Yeah no doubt that’s a pretty darn good player. But when you consider that ogbah does most his pass rush edge damage with length that’s harder to quantify/expect with a similar type prospect. More twitched up or not.

I see Stewart as being a similar swing for the fences that Jihaad Campbell would be. But with reasons for pause on both top 15 which I’ve already gone into.

Considering all this we may need to bump Harmon. Am I the only one though that doesn’t see an elite trait there?

I’m looking for obvious snap count plug and play usage but I’m also looking for high impact production and traits.

Just as an example I’m not looking for a Christian Wilkins top 15. High snap count and plug and play or not.

I have Kenneth Grant rated a bit higher than Harmon personally because of two reasons.

I think he tracks the ball well with his eyes and hands.

If he doesn’t get there on third down he still plays the ball very well with his perfectly timed five deflections, those are big plays

I do think teams ran outside stuff more often against Michigan

I agree.
Looking beyond a group like that for our first selections is just "turd polishing", in my opinion.
