Sherman Fired

For God's sake can we please at least try the Carolina model?

Get a new OC and new GM in the same offseason...

In a weird way, this may be the wake up call that Philbin needs. He can't go to sleep at night knowing his offense is in the hands of his long time friend. His loss of comfort and focus on keeping his job should lead to him be more involved in the offense, offensive line and taking more responsibility for Tannehill.

Regardless of the outcome, this dramatic milestone in his career is about the biggest wake up call he can get without being fired.
One thing is for sure, by this time next year we will know conclusively if Philbin is a head coach or not. Granted he could hire a bad OC, but that also is on him. One more year guys.

Cheer up, the draft is just months away. Can't wait for the next disappointment. :)

Ding Ding - this guy gets it!!! This is the provervial shot across the bow for both Philbin and Ireland -> so they had better get in the POs whether they win the div or back in, you can see sweeping change will be in order

Philbin is sad because unlike what a lot of folks think Sherman didn't operate the offense in a vacuum. Philbin was on board with Sherman's game plan and supported it whole heartedly. This is what scares me the most about keeping Philbin.

Make no mistake, Sherman was running the offense as per Philbin's philosophy but just as him asking for a faster linebacker doesn't mean Ireland did his job by getting us Wheeler the OC still has to design and call good plays at the end of the day. And I'm pretty sure go/go-go was a Philbin thing and expect it back, though its possible Tannehill will have grown out of having to use that crutch.

the speculation is that Philbin would prefer to hire a younger offensive mind

I've been saying this all season-- its a demanding position, it might even be the most demanding position on a football team. Sherman might be good at it if he has 2 or 3 clones or if he has 2 or 3 weeks to prepare for every game but I feel its just too much work and too mentally draining for 99% of 60 year olds.

Reading between the lines, it's more Philbin saw that it was what's best. Also worth a look

Barry Jackson ‏@flasportsbuzz now
By the way,Philbin wanted to interview McAdoo for job before 2012 but Packers denied permission. But as NFL Net says, his contract is now up.

That is certainly a possibility but I expect this to be the only time I actually see it in print on this board. :rolleyes2:

Scheme wise we were trying to run the Houston offense that Sherman called under Kubiak (then both Kyle Shanahan and Rick Dennison ran) but between personnel and playcalling, we didn't run it... at all

Interesting, wasn't aware that that was the same offense. How come our offense and Houston's look so much different? From what I've seen they run so much more PA, more crossing routes, more bootlegs.

Is it just because we can't run the ball?

this should have been the determining factor this season, especially after after the 3-0 start and even more so after controlling their destiny with two subpar opponents left in the regular season.

When is the madness going to stop?! I'm tired of the "next year, we'd better... or else" argument.

All this talk about consistency of what?

We've been consistently crappy.

We've been consistently a non playoff team.

We've been consistently an laughing stock and embarrassment of the NFL.

We've been consistently watching FA come here and SUCK!

How many years do you want to watch the same bull****.

Philbin is no better than anything else we've had here over the past 10 years.

I bet you the Bills will leapfrog us next year.

So who do you want that's available? That can make immediate positive change?

Ross was looking for any way to replace Sparano in 2011, Ross was looking for any to keep Philbin this offseason. I agree with you, and don't agree with other's thoughts that coaches wouldn't want this OC job.

With that said, Ben McAdoo or Rob Chudzinski would be nice hires.

Now replace the General Manager and things might be fine.

You thought Brian duhhhboll was a good hire  please...

Heard that last year.

I would be happy with keeping {hilbin if we got another GM with no ties to him.

Let him be responsible with Philbins fate next season.
