Should Fins take a chance on Tebow?

CBS' Boomer Esiason has joined ESPN's Merril Hoge in already concluding that 24-year-old Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow has no future in the NFL.

We've become Tebow supporters in no small part because the media attacks on him are so constant and bordering on cruel. "He can't play. He can't throw," said Esiason. "... Just because he's God-fearing, and a great person off the field, and was a winner with the team that had the best athletes in college football, doesn't mean his game is going to translate to the NFL. What Josh McDaniels saw in him God only knows. Maybe God does know — because the rest of us don't." per Rotoworld.

This is correct.
If it is, that would be a first for Boomer. I can't imagine anyone whose opinion I value less than that middling QB who made his entire broadcasting career out of taking petty, jealous jibes at Marino.

Last year, Tim Tebow took 10 snaps in Goal-to-Go situations inside the 10 yard line. He scored 7 touchdowns on those 10 snaps. That rate, 70.0%, is the highest I have EVER seen for a quarterback.

And yes, I've tracked this stuff. The highest career Goal-to-Go touchdown efficiency I've seen is Tony Romo's 42.4%. 'Mediocre' stands at about 33.0% to 35.0%. Every Tim Tebow play near the goal line is worth two plays from a mediocre quarterback.

There isn't a goal line specialist in the NFL today that defenses should fear more in the tight red area. Brandon Jacobs is the best goal line specialist tailback that I've ever seen and he scores at a career rate of about 40% down there.

You're going to tell me you wouldn't pay for that? I would pay the draft pick for that goal line specialty ALONE.

But of course, he doesn't just give you that. You get the goal line prowess, you get whatever he might be able to offer you as a TE/H-Back convert, and you get a more than capable emergency quarterback. I feel like Billy Mays should be pitching the trade.

IF it's true that he's available for a 4th or 5th round pick, then if the Dolphins don't jump on it, they're really just idiots. No other way to put it.

not to mention all the Gators fans filling our stadium further preventing the team from being moved lol

Years ago this would be a non issue. A young QB would be buried on the depth chart to develop. With money being given to these guys and with Free agency, draft picks are expected to perform immediately. I'm so glad they fixed the rookie wage scale.

Tebow is performing as expected. He was never expected to be anything more than a project. The hype machine made him into a glorified pro bowler.

Now.. Let's not associate his name with our franchise ever again.

I didn't read all the responses here, but the first few were typical "Tebow will never be an NFL QB" type responses. If those people took a little time to read the OP and thought through the situation. Tebow to the fins would be a great move, not as a starting QB, no one is saying that but someone we can bring in to change things up a little, and as ck has just pointed out, the guy would give us a huge option in the red zone.

When the likes of John Jerry go in the 3rd, I would happily give up a 4th or 5th or whatever Denver are after to add him to our 53. The only question would be how you make that contract work into our cap.

Someone please explain how a thread like this one stays alive in the main Dolphins talk section yet my "Chad Henne is a robot thread" poll gets banished to spam. I honestly think Chad Henne being a robot is more probable than Tim Tebow becoming a successful starting QB in the NFL.

If your second sentence made sense, I would have read the rest of your post.

He cannot play quarterback in the NFL. No out of the box, or inside the box way around it.

Those last three games.... where he went 1-2... where "everyone was slobbering over him".... his completion percentage was a whopping 50%.. 55.2% (against leagues worst passing defense houston)... and 44.4%

The guy will sell jerseys and please any christian dolphin fan... but if you want production on the football field.... the answer is elsewhere. Far away from Tebow.

Correct he is not an NFL qb but if he was cheap enough he could be a wishbone/wildcat type triggerman.

People keep saying if he keeps running he will get hurt. Maybe but the same could be said about full backs running backs and tes.

If you put him out there just to flip the ball back to Chad like we used to do with Danny and it contributed no one would complain.

Yes in short if he was released or traded for next to nothing I would like to see him picked up as something other than a full time qb.

Yeah that made absolutely no sense. /sigh

I'll see your /sigh and raise you a /facepalm

Since you seem to lack something in the reading comprehension area, I'll assume you are stating that, anyone would doesn't agree with your opinion doesn't talk sense. Really the standard of education these days leaves a lot to be desired.

...evidence by the fact that you seem to think that its a legit sentence.

For goodness sake just shut up, there is nothing wrong with the construct of the sentence, are you that insane that you are trying to score grammar points on a bloody fan forum ??

A question and a command rolled into one sentence. Another good job.

You're telling me to shut up, yet asking me a question. Should I assume it's rhetorical question?
