The Oracle
Im good with the Pouncey pick over Ryan Mallett, Im still evaluating Daniel Thomas. Im not ready as you are in saying Thomas is the answer. However I have no problem with Thomas, my issue was with that the talents of Mallet was available we should of took Mallett instead, even if Mallett didnt work out. I had a big problem with Mallett being picked high because of his drug issues, but as a late seconder rounder and our team needs taking a chance on him should of been more of a priority.
What is really weird about his "drug issues" was what was really meant by it. The word was that Ryan Mallett was "too black" of a white guy. He listened to rap music over country. He was all hippity hoppity.
That freaked a lot of older white men in the NFL out.
This dropped the most NFL ready QB in the draft has a great arm who can make all the throws right in our lap. I understand that something like this happened to us 40-50 years ago with some guy named Marnia or something. The difference being that we had the balls to draft him.
I have thought in the past that this FO never took chances and always played it very safe in the draft. This had to be the safest draft in our history. We reached a little for a center with bloodlines. A lineman for a team that needs 3-4 of them so chances are that he would make the team. Then we moved up for a "power" running back while also not resigning the two we had, thus making it almost 100% that he would make the team if not start. Because if for no other reason, we had no other running backs (see L Johnson).
Pouncey and Thomas were locks if for no other reason that we made no attempt to bring in another decent center or RB to contest them. A little like signing Matt Moore and calling Chad Henne the starter before he gets here.
