It doesn't make sense on the surface but NC State is a once proud program, he'd help bring that prgram back, help bring the ACC back and w/in the next decade it's likely ratface and Roy will be gone making life easier in the ACC. I was surprised but stranger things have happened I guess? I don't like NC State but it would be great for the league if they could attract a top coach.

State fans are still living with the memory of Valvano......leads them to be a bit delusional. They're not going to draw a star coach. They don't have the money to pay one and don't have the money to fund a top level program.
