He's a pro bowl QB who played badly for a few games. But looking at his stats, maybe we were too quick to get rid of him.

Year: Team / QB Rating / Games Played

1999: Denver / 75.6 / 14
2000: Denver / 102.9 / 10
2001: Denver / 78.5 / 15
2002: Denver / 85.6 / 13
2003: Miami / 69.2 / 5
2004: Tampa Bay / 97.5 / 11
2005: Tampa Bay / 79.6 / 6

Yes, we probably should have found a way to keep him. But, he also does not fit this style of offense because even though his arm has finally reclaimed some of that whip back, he still doesn't have the arm to operate this offense. He's perfect in Tampa though.

Tampa fans where complaining a lot about him when they where posting here before our game, I remember him playing with us, and the guy was awfull, I don't think he would be doing very well now, his confidence had he staid in this team would by now be completely and utterly destroyed and he would have nothing left.

I dont know but he sure throws good in Maddan 05.... Okay guys give it to me....

No, he's better off as a backup. He fumbles too much, while that may not be all his fault, he still drops it everytime he gets hit. He probably was made to look worse than he is because of the vanilla offense Miami had.

Probably true, but fumbles are better than int's returned for TD's (Feeley, Fiedler---take your pick)

I'd rather have kept Griese than keep Fielder, Feeley, or Frerotte. With him, Tampa was winning lots of games. Now, they're just winning here and there. He's got the arm to throw deep since he did with Joey Galloway. If Tampa cuts him, I'd like to see him take the reins while a rookie QB develops.

Personally I think you fish should have kept the keebler elf....the guy was mediorce at best...but he did have a pretty good record against the bills for whatever reason:confused:

Mediocre would be quite a compliment for Jay Fiedler. He was never really mediocre. Consistently mediocre as a pro is not middle of the pack among starting QBs. Consistently mediocre is bad among starting QBs, because most guys either are outstanding most of the time, or show flashes of being outstanding and the team plays the guy until he develops more consistency. Fiedler never showed flashes of being outstanding. Consistently mediocre means you're in the bottom 10-15% among starting QBs.

My guess is a lot of guys who passed through Miami during the Wanny years will look much better elsewhere. The system was bad and Wanny refused to adapt to what he had. For example, Jay Fiedler is just not cut out to run a Norv Turner offense. Doesn't have the arm needed to make the precise intermediate to deep throws (which is why it mystifies me that the Jets would bring him in to run Mike Heimerdinger's offense...Pennington and Fiedler as no. 1 and 2 in an offense that likes to go vertical?). But that was Wanny for you...Feeley sure looked a lot better once Bates got a few games under him and figured out what he wanted to tweak in the offense.

Not to say we had a collection of superstars, but there's a reason that some franchises can keep plugging in QBs while others can never seem to find the right one.

Griese looked no better than Feeley when he was here. But both of them looked perfectly serviceable in their previous stops. Good luck to all of Wanny's victims in their current and future endeavors (and that goes double for Tyler Palko who got the double whammy of Wanny and Matt Cavanaugh).

As for the current situation, I think we can pretty much say that Gus Frerotte would be an excellent backup. He sure as heck can play a game or two. He's just not a guy who can deliver over a 16 game schedule. So yeah, maybe Griese would have helped. But it's a moot point so let's just hope that the new braintrust can figure out a QB solution now that there's some real coaching going on around Miami.

How many times is this stupid question going to come up?! Greise is not any good if he is playing in an offense that relies on the QB (like OURS). He plays well in gift-wrapped offenses, like the ones that are making Jake Plummer and Chris Simms look good right now. I truly believe he is no better than Frerrote.

He really played good this season but he just didn't work for us
