I am sick and tired of hearing a bunch of so called pro bowl players crying about them not wanting to have thier backs up agains the wall all the time, that is why you get paid more, now you know why our defense has failed us in games the last few years can i name a few

bengals tied 148 left
vikings leading by two and division on the line 2 minutes left
pats leading by 11 division on line 4 minutes left
jets leading by what 30 at the half
eagles game last year offense scores like 30 points playoffs on the line
texans first game last year burned by long touchdown less then 3 minutes to go
pats at home last year have them backed up burned deep and lose

I DONT WANT TO HEAR THEY ARE ON THE FIELD A LONG TIME SO NOBODY SAY SO, GREAT DEFENSIVE TEAMS DO NOT CARE

ask the steelers of the 70's
ask the no name defense
ask the bears of 86
ask the ravens who had a QB that got cut after they won the bowl

Excuses are for one thing losers and that is what some of our defensive players are, if they were not i would not be posting this

Ouch! I don't know if I'd go quite as far as saying members of the D are losers, but the D does need to step it up when the game is on the line. TOP wasn't that big of a difference on Sunday.

In all honesty...........I don't know what the defense could've done to avoid that final drive by the Bengals. We had dollar store replacement parts in there...........no Chester, a hurt Taylor, no Bowens, no Poole, hurt Surtain, hurt Howard. Jimmy Wyrick got eaten alive. I watched Inside the NFL on HBO and they had Chad Johnson mic'ed up and boy was he baggin' on Wyrick. He must've told Carson Palmer that Wyrick flatout sucks like 5 times.

Great post! I don't agree with everything you say but your basic argument is right on. This D is good but it's not great. With our O playing the way it has, the D has to be great if we are going to contend for a playoff spot. They had the game in their hands and couldn't get the ball back to the O to at least put up a FG try. What's worse is that in close games, the D hasn't been able to come up with that big TO. That is what great D's do.

 Excellent points. People always seem to be overlooking this.

Now, if Madison was aloud to roam and cover Johnson it might have been a diferent story, but you can't stick Wyrick and Freeman on Johnson and expect him to be contained. I don't care how much Freeman moans about not being the starter, he is just like Marion... consistently late on the deep coverages.

Agree, when the game is close and it is the 4th quarter the defense kinda gives up.

It's a good statistical defense, they dominate lesser opponents and struggle against the better more physical teams. They have collapsed at the worst times for years now. The payroll is lopsided on the D so they shouldn't be complaining. True champions would want the pressure and respond to it, not complain about it......Just Play the Damn Game........

In some games yes. This past Bengal game? Completely injury related.

I've always absolutely hated how the Miami defense has always allowed opposing teams to dictate matchups by not putting their #1 corner on the #1 receiver, #2 corner on the #2 receiver and so on. I was impressed in 2002 when Madison was shadowing Harrison after Marvin already had 11, count em 11, catches on Jamar Fletcher. I wasn't impressed when I heard Madison made that decision on his own at the end of that game. WHY DO THE MIAMI DOLPHINS HAVE THE MOST STUBBORN COACHING PHILOSPHY IN TH NFL??????????????????????????????????????????????

This post is quite idiotic. First, the defensive players have to run the plays that get called. And the blitz that gave up 30 yards was the wrong call. Anyway all the teams that you mentioned had some kind of offense, except for maybe the Ravens.

Second, it does matter that they are on the field too long. But that was not the reason for the loss. They would not have been in that position if the offense hadn't squandered all the opportunities they had. Lets face it, this is the worst offense that any of us here can remember.

Third, the whole premise of this post is ridiculous. The D gave up 6 points for 59 minutes. What more did you expect from a severely depleted D. I would say they overachieved. This is pure garbage.

I used to get mad at our D too. I wondered why cant the come through like baltimore's, tampas, or even new englands. then i realized our defense simply isnt as good as those defenses. they are a good defense they arent and I dont think they will ever be a great one.

The thing I did't like about hte comment is that it insinuated that they want to coast. I would never expect to thear a hurricanes defense make such comments. They'd rather have the extra chances to knock someones head off and have the opportunity to win the game. Big mental difference if you ask me, and a big reason we lack a killer instinct.

ummmm we didnt lose that game because of the D.
Every defenses in the NFL give up touchdowns. Its the offenses job to strike back when that happens and ours just... didn't...

you forgot the last game against the bills in 2002 when we were up by two touchdowns at half and ricky had 200 yards in the first half. That was a defensive collapse.

But wait a second, did you ever stop to ask yourself why they are always struggling in the 4th quarter. Is it because they are on the field 60-70% of the time due to the inability of our offense to move the ball. I cant believe you would even think of blaming the defense when we had a rookie at cornerback (who got hurt in the final series), a tired Madison and thats it (I know we had Jimmy Wyrick but can you really call him a cornerback). Once the offense scores more points then they give up you can post your comment.
