Skolnick on War column and Fans

Well, Nick has also used a lot of animal analogies. Better watch out for Ethan's article with the PETA stance.

I like Ethan, but he better pull back on this. A "WAR" of words with Nick Saban is a "WAR" that Ethan won't win.

As a Marine who has been there done that and is still active duty I will tell you this. Football is a great source of happiness for a lot of us who were over there as football fans. Thinkin about the dolphins made the long nights not as long.. I have heard a million times before, as active and i am sure i will hear the analogy a million times more....WHO GIVES A DAMN....A Marine is not fighting so a Joe Blow gets chewed out for using a War analogy we are fighting for liberation and in the long term and short to protect us from terrism on our nation.

You know, when lil' Ethan Skolnick first came to the Sun-Sentinel, my first reaction was "who is this litle twit, and which one of his relatives pulled some strings to get him this job?". He's done nothing but validate that initial reaction ever since. He doesn't write any columns I find insightful or interesting, nor does he ever seem to take any approach other than to be an irritant. I think that is a reflection of his personality and character, and thus typically ignore anything he writes.

In the original article Saban was not comparing game preparation to war preparation. He was comparing draft preparation to war preparation.

I don't think most people are offended by Saban's words, and thats fine. But more people seem to be offended by Skolnick's words, and that is disturbing.

After 9/11 I thought that the concensus of this country was to stop referring to the wrong people as heroes, and the wrong events as war. We would reserve those words for when they really meant something. Based on this point only, Saban is wrong.

For all of us Dolfans, Saban is still on his honeymoon. And for most of the media, that honeymoon ended when Saban cut off their access to information.

I've only read a few of his articles, but I agree with you 100%.

I love our troops and my country and the things that they do for me and my family. But to beat to death an analogy that a professional football head coach made is silly. To me, to go on and on about it, cheapens what they are really doing over there. Someone who has access to a public forum like a newspaper should know this already. Saban didn't mean any disrespect we all know it, it should be left at that. Quite frankly skolnick is twisting a sensitive topic to sell himself and his opinions. I think that is a bigger crime than what Saban did.
Totally agree with you!

Not to me. I was the "infantryman during the Gulf War" to which Skolnick referred, and I repeat my advice to you that I gave to him: stop trying to be offended for me.

I love how that jerk used people's quotes who e-mailed me. He used a couple of the things I wrote to him. He didn't ask my permission to use it in an article, nor did he footnote the source with names. I gave him my name and even address. As a Vet I have no problem with what Saban said, but I certainly was upset with that lame article!

Pull back??

Are you kidding? Just look at the response the first article got. He probably got more emails about that article than any one he's written.

If this one gets the same amount of people angry, we can expect a 5 part series on the same topic.

I was upset when he wrote the first article because I think it was petty and rediculous. When I saw the title of his article today I though "good, this idiot is going to apologize for his first column", but not only does he not do that, he makes a joke out of the fact that people were upset about it. I truly hope his bosses at the Sentinel are aware of just how upset the public is about this crap and don't let him get away with this.

Don't you guys think you're overreacting to this? You all are saying he's overreacting, but you are all really upset over this. And if you send him e-mail, you are giving your implicit permission for him to use your statements. Putting your name would have been illegal. I thought it was a perfectly good article because it simply pointed out the reax that he got from readers, which, like I said originally, is just a reflection of what columns are supposed to do: gauge a reaction. I guess we can all agree to disagree on this one, but I'm personally happy that he followed up with this article. Consider Amendment I in use.

I guess if Ethan had his way Sun Tzu's the Art of War would be banned from all book stores in America seeing as how its being used as one huge analogy for business strategy nowadays.
