We have the smallest starting CBs in the NFL. We had a hard time trying to tackle big receivers like Jordy Nelson because of it. I have always hated tiny CBs because big WRs will bully you.

It is a major problem. Grimes played well last season but he hasn't played as well so far this year. Finnegan hasn't played well in about 3 years so that shouldn't be a surprise. Probably one of Hickey's few mistakes this past off season. Why they decided to sign Finnegan to a decent sized contract and hand him the starting job was baffling. This team needs Jamar Taylor to step up and they need to select a corner high in the upcoming draft. Their lack of size and diminishing skills will be magnified next week vs Chicago's big talented receivers. If the Dolphins offense doesn't show up again ,like they have a tendency to for the most part in the first half of games, then it's going to be a long day. The Dolphins are going to need to score at least 30 points if they are to have any chance of winning in Chicago.

Yeah I can see 5'9" 180 pound Grimes trying to cover 6'5" 230 pound Brandon Marshall. Or Finnegan trying to cover one of their monster sized receivers.

I don't think SIZE was an issue today. Brent Grimes didn't play poorly because of his size, he played poorly because he fell a lot. Our starting CB's are undersized and we knew that coming in - it hasn't really been a problem yet, at least their size hasn't been directly related to their performance. Next week will give us a better idea if their height will affect their performance, but this thread, as of right now, is premature.

I will repeat: Brent Grimes and Finnegan's mistakes today had nothing to do with their size.

Grimes is not the player he was last year. He is either injured or his play is just deteriorating. Finnegan is washed up. Doesn't shock me the Rams cut him loose. And yes, Jamar Taylor need to start playing like a 2nd round pick. He is listed at 200 pounds so he gives us more size.

So both of them getting dragged for extra yards by the receivers and being unable to drag a big WR to the ground had nothing to do with their size? Ok. :rolleyes2:

How many times was that an issue? How many times is Grimes being dragged? Today Grimes kept FALLING. Today Finnegan had poor tackling form or bad positioning. They never got beaten by size specifically, and definitely NOT consistently enough where anyone should mention that their small size has been a issue for them.

Brandon Marshall is going to look like Stay Puft Marshmallow Man out there on Sunday.

So I guess you were on the don't sign Grimes to a long term contract band wagon then......

My hopes is that our d line gets to cutler early...if you can rattle cutler hes bound,to make mistakes. If you give him all day to throw then yes he will pick u apart with those receivers.

We had the prototypical CB in Vontae
Indianapolis Colts | Official Team Site
Height: 5-11 Weight: 207 Age: 26

Drafted him,Paid him,Trained him...Suffered through his 3 season learning curve until he was ready to be a true Pro CB & immediately traded him for open bag of stale peanuts to lord Irsay's Colts.

Only in Fins land could such a stupid trade happen but just really relieved the Pats didn't get him from Mia first

The problem with our CBs had more to do with how the played rather than size. Grimes fell down, Finnegan going for the big hit instead of wrapping up, a holding penalty on Finnegan, both CBs playing too far off the LOS, and just overall not playing smart. There was a play or two where the WR wrestled his way for a few extra yards, but that what's going to happen against 90% of CBs in the NFL. If you want to take a page out of Ireland's book and go for size - like bigger CBs Sean Smith, Jason Allen, Richard Marshall, be my guest. The only 2 decent CBs we have had in recent years are Brent Grims and Will Allen - both smaller CBs.
