So assuming that Ross cleans house

4-3. I think it's easier to find players to fit the 4-3 than the 3-4 as they don't have to be as specialized. I also think in today's NFL the rules are designed for a fast passing game. 3-4 defenses are usually bigger and slower. We have seen TE's just killing 3-4 teams and with the current rules there is no reason to think it wouldn't continue. In the NFL now on defense youo need speed, speed, and more speed.
 
Pick a system. I do not care, but I see playing more 4-3 though we have 3-4 personnel...which does not make a lot of sense.
 
I think we would have good players for the 4-3 and Wake would be a beast in the 4-3 DE spot. I do like the 3-4 much better tho. at this point lets do what is gonna work, cuz what we are doing def aint working!!!!
 
I prefer the 3-4, and we actually have solid personnel for the 3-4. I don't really know what the issue with our defense is, because we have enough talent. Not sure if it's coaching or what. Frankly, I'd rather us stick with the 3-4 just so that a new coach doesn't have to come in and give the excuses of putting in a new system, growing pains, etc....,
 
try a 3-3 and put in an extra safety , then maybe, just maybe we could defend the deep ball ........

Marty S ran a version of the 3-4 in KC that was predicated on speed FWIW.

Agreed.

Imagine a DL of Wake, Soliai (NT), Odrick (3 Technique), & Misi then a LB corps featuring Dansby, Burnett, & ?
 
3-4...We don't have the people for 4-3, and I never have like the idea of only 4 guys rushing...
 
3-4....we git eaten alive too much in the middle of the field on a regular basis.

btw, great thread. It is refreshing to have something new to talk about and it's appreciated.
 
Misi as a DE in the 4-3? What are you smoking?

I imagined it and just threw up a little bit in my mouth.
 
I always was a 4-3 guy so I'd rather get back to a 4-3. We actually have the personnel for the 4-3 IMO, guys like Starks, Odrick, Mcdaniel and Soliai could play inside in a 4-3 with Wake, Merling and Langford as 4-3 DEs. Misi and Burnett could play as OLB with Dansby manning the middle.

Haven't you realized by now that he is a closet Jets fan?
How else can you explain this train-wreck.
 
I do like the 4-3 as well. De Kendall, Soliai DT, Starks DT and Wake/Odrick De. I will tell you something tho. With that front 4 we might be big on the run stop. 3-4 are great depending on who coaches them. Look at the Packers. The front 3 are huge over 300 LBS each. If TE are doing work on 3-4 they would destroy 4-3.
 
Misi would get eaten alive at the DE position in a 4-3...way to small,way to weak,way to passive,the guy can't get off blocks to save his life
