So far is this draft better than all Wanny's Draft...

maybe i'm the only dissenter here, but i liked the #2 overall pick, but didn't know/care for the rest.

Matt Roth plays a position we already have a perennial pro-bowler at, and TWO free agents we just signed at. Was he the BPA or something? we still had other holes, some of which a lot more crucial than DE (which we just severely satisfied in FA). I was kind miffed we didn't go DB or OL with that pick, but whatever.

then the crowder guy in the 3rd... i've never heard of him. Never saw him on any mock drafts for us. yet we draft him and all of sudden everyone on here is saying he's the greatest thing since sliced bread. now, not trying to knock the guy, as i've never heard of him and can't rightly say what he'll be like, but come on guys... no one had him on any mocks... i am glad we got a LB, because with seau about to retire and zach getting older and more expensive (and eddie moore being injured), its good we add depth there. so i guess as long as we get another OL and a DB at some point in the draft, i'd be happy.

right now i'm on the fence. Just because he's Nick Saban doesn't mean every pick he will make will be great. The ronnie brown pick i like - honestly i thought we were going to trade down, but it will be great to have a franchise back (that doesn't freak out and smoke weed). The Crowder pick i am on the fence on (because i have never heard of him), and the Roth pick i honestly don't like at all...

Matt Roth was picked to go at #35 on Scott Wright's mock. We got him at #46. Channing Crowder was picked to go 51 on his mock. We got him at #70. At one time both these players were projected to go in the first round.

Never heard of Crowder??? Do you watch college football?
yes but not every team or even every game. i also follow draft boards and mocks, and am quasi-familiar with almost every player suggested that the dolphins might take.

and yet i never heard of crowder.

i am no expert, but i get more than the average american's exposure to college football... so that kind of bothers me. but i am not as upset over his pick as i am about Matt Roth's pick..

we DO NOT need DE!!!!!

even if you take into account BPA, that means 11 people BEFORE us passed up on Matt Roth. obviously those teams drafted based on need, not BPA. we (of all positions) were STACKED at DE due to all our FA signings... you mean to tell me there were no DB or OL that were "ranked" anywhere near the #46 pick???

the Crowder pick i'm not miffed at, as i said we do need depth at LB.... just saying i have never heard of him.

Who says we're going to keep all the DE's we have? We picked up Kevin Carter who will probably play DT. Holliday has been a letdown so we can count on him. Then we're left with David Bowens and Taylor. Roth will play great opposite of Taylor.

so we'll sign holliday and carter, and have them with our probowler taylor, but then we'll cut/trade one of these guys before the season starts???

i just don't understand the move. what is going on in saban's head? thats what i want to know...

I'd say LB was a huge need.

Who are our LB's...
Zach: getting old(yet still very very good)
Seau: Set to retire after this season
Spragan: not proven
Moore: Not proven

You can't wait until you have no LB to select one. I just wish his knees were a little better.

We do need a OL and I wouldn't be against taking Mcpherson in the 4th..

Well you are wrong about the DB thing. We already have 4 starting caliber guys. Madison, Howard (started for super bowl team), Poole, Edwards (started for #1 defense in NFL 2 years ago). Why would we need more CBs? especially when all the good ones (or best ones) Already came off the board. Roth is probably the 3rd best DE/OLB in the draft behind Ware and Pollick.....he may even be better than Pollick - and Ware is 20 lbs lighter. So this is an unbelievable pick - I'm happy now we traded Surtain. I was worried about who would be there at 46. Crowder might even be the best pure linebacker in the draft - he fell mostly because of past injury problems, and perhaps some off the field stuff. But to end up with these 3 guys - today couldn't have gone much better, unless we could have picked up another 1st rounder and still drafted Brown or Benson......but obviously the offers weren't there.

Linebacker was probably our second biggest need behind running back. You can't pass a guy like Roth in the second (a first round talent edge pass rusher). How much would we like to have our 3rd rounder we traded for Gordon back now??? especially with Barber still on the board in the 4th.....we could have had another outstanding player at beginning of the 3rd.
