So Kevin Carter will be will play more tackle than end

Carter's not exactly a great DT though. thats what i think a lot of people on here need to grasp.

I'd be willing to bet he's better than Zgonina and an injured Chester.

Didn't he say he would be playing End on running situations and Tackle in passing situations when he signed? If Chester can stay healthy, we wont need him at Tackle, which would be nice. Just Imagine Chester healthy with Traylor's fat a#& and Carter all on the same line! Hard to block all of them in Running Situations, will free up our LBs along with Taylor!

zgonina is a pretty decent pass rusher. which is what kevin carter excells at as a DT. however, hes not to great against the run.

Our worries should still focus on NT where we really only have Traylor and Chester. Wright is not so much suited for that position. We have plenty of guys capable of playing the other DT spot, with Zgonina, Wright, Holliday, Vickerson, Carter, and possibly Romero. But none of those dudes are suited to play the NT spot.

IMO, we should focus on keeping Carter in at LDE, but seeing as how we want to keep him on the field a lot given his talent level, and seeing how they plan on doing some weird stuff with LDE just like RDE via Roth and David Bowens, I guess it's not surprising they'd have Carter take a lot of snaps at DT because thats where he'd move during stunts and whatnot.

Wright is meant for the NT position i believe. Saban wouldn't want him if he wasn't

BTW I'm getting the feeling people are starting to write off Jeff Zgonina a little bit. They shouldn't. He may be a starter in Game 1. During his first four years in the league he played for Pittsburgh, Carolina, and Atlanta...all 3-4 defenses during the time he played for them (93-94, 95, 96, respectively). He's got plenty of experience in the 3-4, and knows what he's doing.

I heard rumors that before the draft a few teams were interested in Zgonina and possibly willing to give up a 3rd or 4th round pick? I dont understand why we didn't do that, i mean i've never really been a fan of Jeff and i think getting a 4th round pick for him is a steal. This was probably just another garbage rumor, but it did make sense since i could see St. Louis (The team rumored to be interested) looking for some depth at DT.
