So much for Brock and Sage moving up to 2nd string

The only thing Sage is impressing against is the other teams scrubs, (3rd or 4th teamers), while AJ and Gus are playing against the starters and 2nd teamers. People seem to forget that.

Ok.... one last time.... It's PRESEASON against THIRD-FOURTH stringers!!!

How many times have we seen QB's do this, who turn out to be absolute garbage?? The reason they are not being considered is because of that, PLUS they are not getting it done in practice when facing better talent. Just read the camp reports... every practive reports I have seen mentions how poorly Sage and Berlin have looked.

Vicks back up QB lead the league in pass yards last year in preseason but he still remains the backup to Vick. That kinda sums up that to the whole start Sage threads. Sage is playing well against 3rd/4th stringers, whom half will be cut probably.

people also seem to forget that Brock and Sage are playing WITH 3rd stringers as well.....

who cares that they were playing against 3rd teamers? They looked good playing WITH third teamers.....its not like they're out there with the starting o-line, starting receivers, and ricky or ronnie....people seem to be forgetting THAT

In Nick Saban's press conference today, Nick pretty much stated that he is only considering two QBs to start and I think he also revealed the reason Gus is starting for Saturday's game - 3rd down conversions. I'm not sure what the stats are for the first two games but it does seem to me that that is definitely one area Gus has outplayed AJ. Hey AJ, I think Saban just told you what it takes to impress him Saturday. Anyway here's the quote from the press conference to which Im referring too.

On if there are concerns about the quarterbacks getting the ball to the receivers) – “They get it to them everyday. I have a concern about everything. I have a concern that we’ll jump offside. I have a concern, will we pass protect well enough? Will we play good enough in the red area? Will we score touchdowns? I don’t have any concerns about our quarterbacks. They are what they are. We are going to coach them to do what they can do in the game and we should be productive in what we do if we execute together as a team. They’re both capable of doing it.â€Â

Keep in mind that Saban sees a lot more of these QB's than we do. He's got them in practice, while we only see part time duty in some preseason games. I think those of you who are relying on QB ratings are misleading yourselves.

Agreed. Preseason games, some coach once said, only count for about 10% of the evaluation

That is a lame argument, when it comes to evaluating QB's... the most difficult part of the game for QB's is making reads and adjustments, and when 3rd/4th stringers are in the game, it moves a LOT slower. EVERYONE is SLOWER, there is less pressure from the D-line,... S's,CB's,LB's do not know how to read a QB's eyes to see where he is throwing and don't have the speed to make plays once they do make the recognition. Coverages also tend to be much simpler when the scrubs are in the game. It all adds up to making it meaningless.

Maybe he was trying to light a fire under the other two guys. Maybe they have that look he was talking about.

ok. everyone is worked up abou who is our second string QB. Who cares. We are basically screwed at QB no matter who starts or who comes in off the bench. We have 4 3rd string QBs. None of which could START on any other team. Gus backup fro another team. AJ 3rd QB. Sage, 3rd...Brock? Gus will probably start. He is probably the best option at this point. We do not have a starter. We have a bunch of backups. So, A.J., Sage, Brock. One of them will come in off the bench. I can only hope that whoever plays is great.

I don't think this ends the Sage talk at all. He certainly isn't going to get time with the second team until the competition is over, but I think it's quite possible he'll get a look in the 4th game if Gus wins the job this week.

Dude this is my whole point. How about the fact most people voted too keep Brock over AJ, yet most people don't want to give Brock playing time over AJ...???? LOL!

If AJ performs poorly again on Saturday and Gus does well then I think Gus could well be named the starter.

AJ won't be cut, no matter what... he has had reps with the first team, is learning the system and is serviceable. There is no way we cut AJ, just to get Brock on the roster. It is a lot more pheasible that Brock spends the year on the practice squad and that he becomes the third string QB next year when it is likely that both Sage and AJ are gone.
