So what happened to the defense?

What did happen to the defense?

Let see, they held the opposition to 13 first downs. check
Facing bad field position 5 times and held the opposition to FG's each time. check
On the game defining series they force a goal line fumble that should have been a touch back. check
Did not allow a real TD (throwing the ball at the pylon is NOT a TD) check

But yeah, there is lots of room for improvement.

The score and refs disagree. Perhaps they shouldn't have allowed Watkins and Spiller to gash them for 40 yards a pop after getting an hour of rest.

It amazes me that people give the defense a pass for choking after resting for nearly an hour.

I'm not giving the D a pass but they were by far the best unit out there. Coaching aside the offense and special teams takes 90% of the blame. I'll give the Defense 10%

Even if you think the Watkins TD was bull****, Buffalo still had the ball at the goal-line after having their lead cut to 6. For ****'s sake defense, get the offense the ball back down 6 and let's see what happens.

They didn't choke, they forced a turnover that wasn't given to us.

I guess they are supposed to hold the opposition to a field goal every time.

BTW the defense is ranked 5th in the NFL in red zone defense and 4th in yards per play given up.

Good luck finding any category that the offense is top 5 in.

Sorry this is inaccurate. I turned the game off and missed the last few minutes.

They actually forced 6 FG attempts, 1 was missed.

The defense faced 12 possessions during the game.
On 6 of the 12 they held the opponent to a Field Goal attempt. The average starting field position for those 6 drives was the Miami 39 yard line about 5 yards out of Carpenters range.
4 other possessions they forced punts fairly quickly. One 3 and out and one 4 and out.
The Special teams TD is on Sturgis and the special teams coach. Can we please get a guy that can kick the ball out of the end zone consistently.

The one defensive series they did allow a TD was bull**** officiating.

The D could have played better but they were NOT the reason we lost that football game.

It was a TD but keep crying.

Maybe Wallace TD should not count either right

I was referring to the first half but nice try =]

No doubt, the defense expended a lot of effort in the 1st half keeping us in the game. At halftime buffalo had a 4 minute advantage in time of possession. The defense faced a whopping 39 plays in the 1st half due to inability to get off the field on 3rd down. But when the field got tighter they held on 3rd down and forced field goals. Then they sat 12 minutes of the 3rd. I don't think they were tired in 2nd half but more like cold from sitting for so long. The TD drive by buffalo was a first down, then the big run by spiller, and then the gift from the refs.
