Soliai

If we play games we're going to lose both Soliai and Starks. Starks is ticked because we tagged him and hurt his overall career earning potential. I don't see Soliai selling his house to be a negotiating tactic. You just don't up and sell your house unless you are committed to moving. I think there is at least a 50% chance that we lose them both. Only Steven Ross could replace Jeff "Like a Boss" Ireland with someone worse.

Our run defense wasn't even TERRIBLE... it was about average, but because our pass defense was so dominant, and our offense was so non-existant, teams were able to establish the run against us. We couldn't sustain drives, and teams knew that, so they would pound the ball down our throats to establish ball control. Moreover, because we had a bottom 10 scoring offense, teams were always "in the game" or winning against us - another reason why teams were able to keep a balanced attack against us and allow teams to keep running against us.

If our offense actually did something worthwhile, you'd see how dominant our defense would have been against the run AND the pass. Overall, even with our bottom 10 ranked offense, our defense still ranked in top 10 overall in a lot of categories and was very tough consistently all season.

It's just ridiculous to see people say "oh our defense wasn't even great" or "oh our run defense wasn't good anyways" it shows such an amateur understanding of the game.

Our run defense was at the bottom of the standings. We could not stop anyone, especially when it counted. You need to check last years run defense stats

Yes, I realize what the stats show. Our run defense was about average but due to circumstance (a really good pass defense and a really bad offense) our run defense totals look worse than they should. I'll rewrite my last post in different words in attempt to maybe resonate more with you...

Our offense was in the bottom 10 in almost every category including two of the biggest:

bottom 10 in scoring offense
bottom 10 in time of possession

Both of these directly relate to the performance of our defense ESPECIALLY our run defense. When teams are allowed to keep a balanced attack, they are more dangerous and your defense is more susceptible in getting gashed across the board. The one constant every offense does is PASS - whether they are tied, winning, or losing - teams will always pass. But if you're losing you do not run the ball. If our offense could hold a lead even half the time you would see teams running the ball a lot less against us (and putting up less numbers).

Does that make sense? I'm not saying our run defense was great, it was about average, our defense as a whole was VERY GOOD and both our DT's were a big part of that.

unless i misread the story, it said he "moved out" of his house (whatever that means). nothing indicated the home was for sale, or that he wouldn't be returning. i hope every time i pack a few things and leave town people don't start writing stories about how i "moved out" of my house.

We can't afford to lose Soliai. I don't care about last season. He's a difference making player at a vital position. Pair him with an upfield disruptor like Aaron Donald and we'd be in our best shape at defensive tackle in decades.

IMO, it's not close between Soliai and Starks. If we have only the latter, we forfeit one of our great strengths -- ruggedness up front.

Big Paul is a crucial part of our defense. Aside from Grimes, he is the most important free agent to sign.

I really hope that he stays, but if not I hope that he goes somewhere out of the AFC East....

I've almost run out of wind on this topic. It can take years to find another Soliai. As you noted, Donald would be an instant upgrade over Starks. Wouldn't be surprised to see Miami **** this up.

For all the talk that Bug Paul is some irreplaceable figure I laugh, loudly.

He's a solid NT, nothing more nothing less. He's a run stuffer that's not really all that great in a 4-3, I'd take Starks and still draft Donald. Donald is going to be a stud..
