Well given that they're likely too stupid to agree with the hint, and incapable of increasing their intelligence in response, I think we're better off ignoring them and letting their threads fall harmlessly down the list. :)How will stupid people know they're stupid if you don't give them a hint?
50% of the population is of below-average intelligence, and I don't see any measure that's been invoked here to screen them out. The question is, what's the best way to handle it that preserves some measure of respect, maturity, and peace in the forum. The ignore list is one good way, and there are others.

If anyone feels they're getting hammered too often for making stupid threads, perhaps they should make an effort to create better threads.
If there isn't a little bit of community policing, we're going to wind up with page after page of threads like that "Marino isn't a gunslinger" thread. And if people have to wade through a couple of dozen crap threads to find something halfway intelligent, this community is going to dwindle. I think this place has a nice balance as it is. We don't see too much over the line vulgarity, but we do get to razz each other a bit. It ain't broken; don't fix it.

But that same effect can occur from others' not responding at all. When someone shouts into the wind enough times, he'll likely stop, and there will have been no denigration of the overall atmosphere in the interim.

What, you mean to tell me that when people call me out on posting baby vomit threads all over the board, a grave injustice is being performed?
It just goes on and on with you. And on. Same thing, same game- not only start threads that annoy people, take pleasure in annoying them and make the same pathetic points over and over again- in the same thread, in new threads, and hijacking other threads to further your weak agenda. Then complain about how 50% of the population is stupid,and you of course are one of the superior intellects, trying to add to your sense of grandeur that goes hand in hand with your self serving belief that only idiots trust their eyes as per judging football, only statistics have the truth embedded within them. Then start attacking the motives and intelligence of the moderators, the last straw that got you banned at thephins. This is so textbook the same pattern that got you banned at thephins, the question begs to be asked- are you trying to get banned again? And also, what perverse pleasure do you get out of antagonizing so many people? You actually go out of your way to piss people off- you made thephins a worse place to go for Dolphins fans, pushing it to the point that you were eventually, to the great joy of so many other posters, banned from the site. Now you're doing the same thing here and I'd venture to say that you're on the same path and trajectory that you were over there. Curious indeed.

Well I'm sure we're going to differ in our definition of "attack," but I would think it should be defined as anything negative that's directed at an individual instead of the topic. There is no good reason to talk about individuals instead of topics.
I'd rather uphold the decency and peace of the forum at the risk of its falling on deaf ears than resort to personal comments or attacks in the attempt to change others' behavior, while fundamentally changing the tenor of the forum in the process.
There are also the options of sending PMs to the offending individuals, and/or reporting things to the moderators, who can also converse with those individuals in private. Public affronts of people are by no means the only option in these instances.
You really believe that my being ignored is the typical response? I've supplied the link to people's ignore lists many times. I have no problem being ignored. Use the ignore function supplied with your membership.
Watching you go through the same process, almost exactly, that got you banned from thephins, apparently without learning one iota from that experience, is curious indeed. Maybe on the intelligence scale that you've referred to more than once, indirectly and snidely insulting posters left and right, you're more a part of the lower 50% than you think :)
