Jim Harbaugh spoke glowingly of Martin today, as a player and person. Maybe we can swap him there in the offseason for a low pick. That might make sense for both teams, and benefit Martin.

If anyone writes here that it's all about the tape, some type of mocking song should automatically play in the background.

It's like the BCS formula, with a split between human and computer input. Whatever fraction Ireland assigns to personality and character, it doesn't threaten to be high enough.

At all costs? So you'd be pleased with Long @10mil/year (or whatever he's making in St Louis) in lieu of, say, Wallace? Or, say, Gibson and Ellerbe? Or perhaps Johnson instead of Jordan?

Not being aggressive, just curious.

Martin *should've* grown into the position. Who knew he was to turn out like this...

There're many things to blame Ireland for. This one is a bit of a stretch.

First off we supposedly offered Long more money than St. Louis and he chose St. Loius anyway. I think all of the players you mentioned above were already signed at that time. The fins still have plenty of cap space, not sure if fixing the LT spot would have cost them any of the players they signed. They simply could have outbid Baltimore for. McKinnie in the offseason. Another move that would not have broken the bank. They could have trade the Jamar Taylor or Will Davis picks for Branden Albert also.

I didn't know it would turn out like this bit the Dolphins knew Martin wasn't very good and had other issues in the offseason. Relying on him to play the most important position on the OL was irresponsible if you ask me. Just go back to the offseason threads on here. It was so obvious that the vast majority of finheaven posters considered Martin the biggest question mark on the whole team.

Obviousley going into that draft LB, DT, RB, wasn't a need for us. After the turn style which was COLOMBO, RT, was our biggest need after QB.. JONATHAN MARTIN before he left the team had the most start among the 2nd round draftees. So if you want to blame Ireland on a fail pick, you better blame some of the other teams as well since they didn't do any any better. The only player, who you could say unequivocally would have been a better draft pick based what was needed was Alshon Jeffery. So, Ill give you that. But godam you people sometimes.. Again, let's not let the facts get in the way of course.

And Bruce Irvin went in the first round, while being projected as a 2nd or 3rd rounder. If I cared where other people selected picks then it would be a different story. This isn't just one pick . . . In fact, the drafts are seemingly getting progressively "worse" under the reigns of Ireland (since many of his supporters want to only give him credit for the 2011 draft and beyond, nothing before).

And biggest need in the draft that year was the need to add offensive playmakers to the mix. Thank goodness we secured Michael Egnew, while talents like Jeffery, Hilton, Allen . . . guys people on this board exclaimed for, passed us by. Of course unless you think going into the season with Legadu Naanee as your starting WR (an Ireland decision) for your first round rookie QB was a stellar idea.

You make a valid point of which I agree. But for whatever the reason, Ireland seems to have a black clooud over him as it relates to bringing in players. Also, I am not giving the coaches a free pass as it is their responsibility to coach up each player.

of course. but not for two-years-down-the-road mental freakouts by players with no red flags on their pre-draft psych evals. just like an injury to a non-injury prone player. can't blame the gm. sorry if that doesn't further the fire ireland agenda.

Also, as seen in my previous posts throughout the season, I have no fire Ireland agenda. I fault him when it is deserved and I credit him when it is deserved. With that being said Ireland has brought in some players that have been successful, while also bringing in many that have been unsuccessful.

He was also incredibly weak for the position, and that has been a clear issue. But, Ireland took him anyway.

I can't really blame Ireland for the guy being nuts...but I can blame him for taking a weak ass ***** as an LT.

I don't fault Ireland for picking Martin, even if he was weak. I do blame Ireland (and the coaching staff) for not recognizing that Martin was basically a "project" that needed time to get stronger and more efficient in his play as a LT. Ireland probably thought that it made him look like a genius to replace high-priced Long with a cheap rookie. But, that rookie wasn't ready to be crowned the starting LT, and the staff should have known this. When Martin was still getting knocked on his butt early in his second year, someone should have said let's sit the kid and bring in someone else as Martin needs another year or two. Instead, Martin was handed the starting job anyway.
