Soooo if we won one more game....

The problem I have with this team is Shermin and Ireland. Getting rid of either creates some issues. Philbin might not want to stay if Shermin is axed by Ireland or Ross.
If Ireland is fired, the new GM may not like Philbin or his scheme...not to mention Shermin.
This team is a train wreck and Ross is paralyzed. I think he is just hoping the anger and outrage will diminish in time, so he can give this regime another season.
If that happens, and nothing is done, next season will be another 8 win season. Plus I have no confidence in Irelands drafts. More wasted time.

I think the problem is that we didn't just improve steadily throughout the season and simply fell one game short. We were inconsistent ALL year long. Won the first 3, lost the following 4, and so on. Similar to last year.

And that inconsistency is why, despite having EVERY opportunity to make the playoffs this year, we didn't. That's what sucks, and imo that's also why so many fans question our QB. Because he's proven to be very inconsistent as well. I mean, we had the opportunity to win our last game at home, and he simply couldn't elevate his game and play at the high level he'd shown weeks prior against the Pats. That is frustrating and it HAS to raise some doubts. Just my opinion.

Yup, he's like a box of chocolates. I kept waiting for a big offensive game, and I guess that NE game would qualify but I was also hoping to see no Tennessee type stinkers this season and the Jets game definitely qualifies for that. He had a bum knee though so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt on that one. The thing is though I think he can be explosive enough to win a lot of games even with the occasional stinker, kind of like what Andy Dalton does in Cincy, so all is not lost on the inconsistency front.

We should stop focusing on the last two games of the year like it was some great collapse.

We did not consistently play well last year. We lost when we shouldn't and got lucky or stepped up just enough to beat a few good teams.

We were never close to amounting to anything. We were a playoff blow-out waiting to happen if we had that one more win.

Maybe Ross thinks there was enough talent to beat the Bills and Jets

It comes down to a thought process. I heard the hosts arguing with Armando on wqam, the hosts said we were an 8-8 team all along and finished 8-8. Armando disagreed saying when you're 8-6 playing the Bills and Jets you have to get to 9-7. Personally, I see it more like the hosts, Buffalo was always a tough game for me anyway so it was not shocking at all to lose that one. And the Jets game simply came down to young QBs being inconsistent, it happens.

We didn't win nine games, we won 8. We were not better than our record. The amount of money spent to only buy one more win is criminal. You'd have to look at the Mil/Ind/Comp, or TARP to find worse graft than the 2013 Dolphins. Ultimately, the fans are the ones getting screwed, while Jeff Ireland drives home in a great car to his big, fancy house in Miami.

In reference to Phin magic's post:

Because he had to cater to two separate regimes that had totally different ideas on how to run those offense of lines. Part of this team's problem is trying to fit a square peg into a round hole as far as OL's goes. If we were not restricted by the draft and the salary I'm sure the present head coach would've blown up the entire offense of line (with possibly the exception of Pouncey) to a smaller more mobile type of offense of player. We'll get there, but not by blowing up the entire infrastructure.

Did one of those regimes require a really crappy offensive line?

What kinda logic is that, that's like saying if we won 2 more games under Sparano in any of his mediocre seasons here, Sparano would still be around, Henne would be our franchise quarterback still, etc etc.

Meanwhile Wilson and Luck aren't making excuses, have been in the playoffs both years they've been in the league.

Some would say its illogical to require your second year QB/coach to make the playoffs or blow it all up, regardless of what other QBs/coaches are doing around the league.

While I agree there are a lot of flaws on both sides of the ball, I think you are only looking at this from one side. Our running game has gotten worse, but our passing game has gotten better. Our run defense has gotten worse, but our pass defense has gotten better.

And I would hope, our coach has a "master plan" and is working towards achieving it.

This is my perspective: Miami had a running game and a run defense. All that was needed was to upgrade the passing game and the CBs. Did Philbin do this? No. He got the passing game going, but made the offense one-dimensional by ignoring the running game. This just created more stalled drives and they struggled to score points. The CB position was upgraded, but his tinkering with scheme changes ruined the run defense. A good coach would have tried to fix what was broken, and kept what was working. Philbin couldn't do that because he only knows his way.

Maybe somebody should change his damn diaper, who knows. His opinion on football talent is not much in my estimation anyway.
He also thought Sparano deserved an extension
