Special teams lost the Bills game

Ryan and the offense have rightfully taken lots of heat for their effort but the biggest culprit was Rizzo's unit.

Block punt

100 yard kickoff return

Fumbled punt

Hard to win when they keep giving away scores and field position. Ya i know lots of special team guys were force to play on defense but that effort was really bad and more than anything lead to the lose.

I agree. If we had held our own on special teams on Sunday we would have been in the game to the final whistle. It also SHOULD be the easiest thing to fix, but we'll see.

I wouldn't say they lost us the game. Total team effort, from coaching on down.

But yeah, that was about the worst overall effort I've seen on special teams in a very long time. Bad punting, bad kick coverage, bad punt returns, bad kick returns...

Don Jones was pretty dang good on special teams.

IMHO one of the New England games was just as bad last year. Or was that two years ago??? Anyway, Mr. Rizzo ain't earning his paycheck right now.

It's true. A team like the Bills is only beatable if you play soundly in all phases. You don't even have to excel necessarily...just be sound.

I can't blame Rizzi. I don't think he coached them to be bad. We've been shuffling the bottom half of our roster and cut a couple of our better special teams players. It's the personnel, IMO.

That's probably right but even Mr reliable Fields had a couple bad shanks and Landry although a good receiver looks out of place returning kicks. Outside of the one great return in the preseason he's done nothing back there.

What is up with Fields? I noticed he was hitting a lot of low punts in the preseason. Has not looked like himself lately. He was a weapon and now... not so much. Must be doing some pregame tipping back with Prater.

Punt block gave Buffalo the ball at the Dolphins 31...result FG 6-0 Bills
33 yard punt by Fields to Buffalo 31...result no points on drive. 9-0 Bills
102 yard kickoff return by Spiller...result TD. 16-3 Bills (after we got it to one possession)
29 Yard punt from Fields to Miami 48 yard line...result FG drive for Bills. 26-10 Bills.
Muffed punt by Landry recovered at the Miami 17...result Carpenter hits the upright...no points. 26-10 Bills.

So yeah special teams was awful, no doubt, but it only resulted in 13 of the Bills points. Take that away and it's still 16-10 Bills.

Special team had a big part in our loss, but we had chances to win in spite of the poor ST performances.

True but after half time we started moving on offense and get 3 right away so we are only down 6 points. The kick return by Spiller was a dagger and without that the Fin get a Wallace TD next possession and would have been up 10 to 9.
