Speculation: Suspended Players Could Be Reinstated before Sunday!

Update:
Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reports that the NFL and NFLPA have reached a tentative agreement regarding a third-party arbitrator overhearing appeals stemming from PED and HGH violations.
According to Florio’s source, a form of neutral arbitration would be used under the current tentative agreement.
This still leaves the issue of the NFL wanting to impose suspensions for players that arrested for DUI’s even before the case has gone through court.
PFT spoke to one source who said that he’s “expecting an announcement at any time.”
It’s hard to say what will end up happening with suspended players, but there is at least some optimism that they could be reduced and/or removed all together as part of this agreement.

NFLPA assistant executive director of external affairs George Atallah told The Associated Press on Friday that the NFL is trying to include a provision that would allow them punish players for alleged DUI cases before the due process has played out.
“They want to immediately discipline for an arrest,” said Atallah, via USA Today. “…We prefer to discuss these issues directly with the union.”

Not looking like enough time for anyone playing for week one. Maybe for week 2.

Sounds like it may be headed that way.

Per league source, NFLPA has told Cowboys CB Orlando Scandrick that new drug policy won't be finished in time for him to play in Week One.

Sources: At least two players currently on substance/PED suspensions (Welker, Gordon) hoping for reduction in penalties w/ new agreement

Source says earliest a new drug policy will be finalized is Monday or Tuesday. Existing suspensions will stand for Week One.

As the NFL and NFLPA continue to not have a deal on a new, comprehensive drug policy, some more facts have emerged regarding what the league specifically has proposed.

As to the claim that the NFL wants players to be suspended for DUI arrests before their legal cases have ended, a source with knowledge of the negotiations tells PFT that the NFL has proposed a one-game deactivation with pay for the next game after any DUI arrest. It’s not a suspension, and there would be no forfeiture of salary.

Also, the proposal would apply not only to players but also to any other team or league employees, including owners.

That’s a far more reasonable stance than the imposition of actual financial punishment before a case has been adjudicated.

Another sticking point remains regarding the NFL’s desire for a minimum two-game suspension for a first-offense DUI, following the conclusion of the legal process. It’s currently unclear whether the NFLPA would accept that term.

Whatever happens, it’s highly unlikely that suspended players will be unsuspended for Week One. By Week Two, it remains possible.

Let's hope not...I would rather leave our two suspended.

Welker has to do something to stop the continual ringing in his ears. He's a concussion waiting to happen now.

He's taken some big time hits across the middle and been seriously concussed.

I'm seriously worried about his health.

LD

IF HE HAS HAD concussions and is that bad off, the LAST drug he should put in his body are AMPHETAMINES of ANY kind. thats pouring gas on a fire. i hope he doesnt go out like that. what shame to blow a blood vessel in your already damaged head for a line of crank or handful of black beauties.

i always thought he was a straight arrow kinda kid.

but, i am with you LD, his health is a major concern. i hope the nfl steps in before he kills himself off with speed.

Fact remains that all potheads can talk about is pot. Their minds would explode if they had to try to talk about something else.

Fact remains you know that's not a fact and smoking weed doesn't make you a pothead so I don't know where this is coming from.

Its coming from someone who probably believes everything the government tells them.

Here are a few simple facts people should know.

Marijuana was first made illegal in the US by racist governments who used it as a way to control minor populations by incarceration.

The US government itself has a patent on medical marijuana and yet still considers it to not have medicinal purposes.

In the US whites, blacks and Mexicans all smoke marijuana at the same rate, population % wise, and yet blacks and Mexicans are 7 x's more likely to be arrested for possession. This is because US police forces receive grant money based on the # of arrests they make.

The US government has actually supplied money and guns to drug cartels who they want in power in certain countries.

Around 9% of people who smoke marijuana become addicted. In contrast around 17% of people who drink become alcoholics and over 20% of people who try cigarettes become addicted.

The US government says marijuana should not be legalized until further studies can be completed and yet they have only given the green light to fewer than 10 of those studies is the past 15 years.

The largest political donation contributors against marijuana are the pharmaceutical, alcohol and tobacco industries. All of whose products have caused millions of deaths due to addiction and overdose. THERE IS NOT A SINGLE DOCUMENTED CASE OF AN OVERDOSE FROM MARIJUANA EVER!

Also in case you forgot recreational marijuana is actually legal in two states for adults over 21, about to become legal in two more and over 20 states have legalized medical marijuana.

That should clear some things up in this discussion.

I knew all of these facts and support the legalization. I hope most people know of them (They don't). But if people still debate it after knowing these facts and support the legalization of alcoholic beverages then it's better to not be associated with such idiotic human beings in the year 2014.

The NFL and the NFL Players Association met Monday to discuss changes to the league's drug policy, and the players might vote on a proposal Tuesday, multiple media outlets reported Monday night.

Topics on the table include the introduction of testing for human growth hormone, increased limits in marijuana testing and the expansion of neutral arbitration, according to ESPN.com.

Also up for discussion is whether currently suspended players such as Cleveland Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon and Denver Broncos wide receiver Wes Welker could have their penalties shortened based on the new rules that could be implemented.

Yep, exactly as I stated before, it doesn't apply to our players. The drug policy shifts are related to HGH testing and marijuana, and not amphetamines. Besides, anyone who understands what amphetamines does to the body knows that it is absolutely a performance enhancing drug. It may be used for recreation, but there is no doubt that it is also a PED. For it to be removed from the PED list like some in this thread have suggested, there would need to be proof that it does not enhance performance.

Would be nice to get Jones and Jordan back for the Bills game.

Why? Why do we want Jordan back at all. Him coming back might mean less snaps for McCain. I would much rather see McCain n the field than Jordan!
