Spielman

saban is the GM... Spielman has little input now.

However, I hope Rick stays around because he is a great talent evaluator.

We don't need another GM, Speilman's fine..I hope Saban ego can handle having him around because he's good, especially on the 2nd day picks, he's been very good at finding gems..Saban used a lot of Speilman's scouting department writeups, I'm use speilman was help..In a couple of years Saban won't know all these players personally like he did this year.
We might not agree in the Po forum, but in this one? Yeah, you and I might be one of the few that look past the rick and wanny relationship. :D

Interestingly enough.....I found that Channing Crowder just might be a Speilman choice....
First-year Packers general manager Ted Thompson seems to have a good handle of drawing the line come draft weekend with immensely talented players who are notorious for running foul of the law or who are a human magnet for the surgical knife.
"You probably would have to take it case by case," Thompson said. "I think sometimes individuals make mistakes (and) if it's out of character, maybe you give him a mulligan on that. Sometimes, maybe if it's more in line with that person's history, I think you take that a little more serious."
One of Thompson's colleagues, though, indicated recently that the pluses outweigh the minuses with Crowder, who gained entry into the draft after only two years of playing for Florida.
Miami GM Rick Spielman is willing to give Crowder the benefit of the doubt for off-field scrapes that led to a pair of suspensions from the team.
"Each individual team has their own criteria on what they will and won't put up with," Spielman told reporters after observing Crowder during an on-campus workout for Florida players. "I've visited with the kid, and he's a first-class kid.
"People make mistakes in the past, and each team decides on how much they'll put up with."

If Rick was making a quote, it was probably because Saban wasn't there, right?

Now, final say and all belongs to Saban and I'm sure that he knew Channing well, but Crowder is just like Bua and Pope from last year except for the size difference. he's the kind of player that Rick went after.

IMO, Rick is valuable and some of you don't see it because you want to throw the baby out with the bath water.

Look at all the picks we could have had if it wasnt for Spielman..

1st round: 1 selection (#2)
2nd round: possibly 3 selections in this round. Ours from the Feeley trade, possibly a second if Spielman just took a 2nd and a 3rd for Ogun, and the Chiefs 2nd.
3rd round: 2 picks
4th round: 1 pick
5th round: 1 pick
6th round: 1 pick (Boston)
7th round: 1 pick

At least 10 picks, and maybe 11! Hey we could have even got the Bears 1st rounder if Saban was the GM. But I would think that he would have taken a 2nd and a 3rd from the Bears.

You cant tell me that you would rather have Feeley, Boston, Gordon, and Booker. Booker is the only one out of that group that could still possible help the team. Yet, if we had the extra 2nd for instead of him- Im sure we could have drafted a receiver of his caliber in the draft.

I know this is shoulda, woulda, coulda- but it just proves how much Spielman should get canned.

I think the Boston and Feeley trades were Spielman as man in charge. Boston for a 6th was worth the gamble. We'll know about Feeley in a year.

BUT, I find it very difficult to believe that after RW left, Spielman didn't sit down with Huzienga and say something like, "Mr. H., our whole offense, and Dave's whole philosophy is built around RW. Now, Boston is out so we can't pass well either. Do you want me to try and get Dave more pieces to make it work, or do you want me to let the chips fall where they may."

IMO, that is why Spielman stayed after Wanny got fired and Nick got hired. I think Huzienga made an executive decision with the understanding that a) teams will know the Phins are in a bind b) Spielman wouldn't get "blamed" for trying to help Dave... within reason. Ogun for Marty Booker and Gordon filled to immediate needs and was reasonable in that situation.

You may have to define "reasonable".

Speilman is not a bad guy. Why all the personal insults against the guy. Some of you need to get a life.
I didn't like DW as a coach, but I've never launched personal insults agains the guy. He did the best he could.
RS I think is a very good talent evaluator and in time he may actually be a very good GM. He's still very young.

It's sad but, some fans who don't have the knowledge or insight to construct a well thought out opinion, will simply resort to personall insults in a desperate and futile attempt to discredit someone they don't like.
