Sports Buzz: Carl Peterson's influence apparent, why Pioli didn't make cut

The thing that gets me is, Huizenga brought in Parcells, he brought Ireland. And Parcells actually WON a Superbowl.

Now Ross is listening to Peterson to bring in one of his cronies.

I can't stand this "hire my buddy" bull****.

Bring in the most qualified, most experienced person. Let him bring in his people and hold him accountable.

If you're not going to do that, hire Peterson make him accountable.

As it sits now it's like Peterson play Madden. He can make moves, but ultimately it doesn't cost HIM anything.

Peterson was a decent GM in the NFL for 20 years. I'd say that he knows some good questions to evaluate prospective GMs. I have no problem with Stephen Ross listening to advice from others to help make a good decision. I disagree with those on here who think that it's a simple exercise in identifying the best. How people perform in interviews and how well they work with others, solve problems and their work ethic are not always obvious.
The very best person who I employed did not light it up in the interview, but excelled to go onto bigger and better things. Stephen Ross has had a lot of experience in making good appointments in his real estate development business but he has not had a lot of experience in making NFL appointments. I think that it's a good thing to seek the feedback of others. A poor appointment could put us back further but a good one will get us back in the Super Bowl.

I'm not saying Peterson doesn't have experience or knowledge. But we've certainly gotten here by listening to Parcells. The problem I have with what is being reported is that Farmer is the front runner merely because of his ties with Peterson. I'd much rather hear that Farmer is the front runner because he's the best man for the job. Like you, I'm not so much about his personality and how it meshes with Aponte or Philbin. It's about how well he does his job.

No, make no mistake, Farmer is a decent candidate on his own merits, irrespective of his work experience and connection with Carl Peterson. He is well known in NFL circles as someone with very high aptitude. The question is whether he's the best candidate now. With his african american heritage, it would send a strong message that Miami Dolphins truly operates as an equal opportunity employer. However, he has to be able to back it up with good football decision making.

Thank God Peterson steered Ross away from Pioli. Pioli is a train wreck as a person and he would be the last person this organization should hire after getting rid of Ireland.

You took the words right out of my mouth.

Show me a report where it's stated that Farmer isn't the favorite because of his connection to Peterson.

Pioli would have been a terrible fit for us.
The whole direction of the org is moving towards a more politically saavy, media friendly, fan friendly. If Farmer and Dawson are indeed the candidates. You can lump Gain in there as well.

Pioli needs an image rehabilitation after the KC fiasco. If his personality has such a tendency to gravitate towards "paranioa" he probably wouldnt see that many allies in Miami either as we are trying to remove ourselves of Parcell's tendencies.

Atlanta is a perfect fit for him. Surrounded by Patriots transplants and folks he trusts. He may thrive there.

Maybe he is the front runner because of his ability AND a connection to Peterson? Why is this not possible? Why must there be some "good ole boy" connection?

And once again. Why would this be an issue, if Farmer is a viable candidate?
