### Why was Dolphins linebacker Dannell Ellerbe, of all people, staying late catching passes from a JUGS machine?

“I reached out to Derrick Brooks and I asked him how to get all the interceptions like he did,” Ellerbe said. “He told me to catch 24 balls after practice every day, so I’ve been catching 30.”
### Ryan Tannehill’s play has been uneven (some good, some bad) in training camp, but here are two encouraging signs:
He’s consistently running for significant gains on read option plays, though he still needs to work on his sliding. And he still shows a knack for making plays outside the pocket, sometimes when he’s flushed and sometimes by design. As Grantland’s Bill Barnwell noted in a piece this week, Tannehill was the NFL’s fifth-best passer outside the pocket his first two seasons.

To lazy to look it up but did Ellerbe drop a lot of INTs last year. If so, then that's a good way to get more INTs, otherwise he might be better off working at being in position first...

No, he didn't. Ellerbe was just lost 95% of the time.

I think we purposefully went away from the read option stuff not because we didn't think it would help win games but because the priority was making sure Tannehill survived the season to help ensure he'd be ready for his all important third and fourth seasons when everything is hopefully coming together and we have a legit shot to make a run.

We'll be much more willing to throw caution to the wind this season, Tannehill just needs to smarten up and make sure he doesn't try to stiff arm LBs and safeties trying to pick up a few extra yards, especially a few meaningless yards in the grand scheme of things.

i hope tannehill is just saving the sliding for when the red shirt comes off

He really needs to perfect that including protection of the ball when on the run and also to try and get rid of the ball a little more when under extreme pressure. I know sometimes there is no time and better to take a sack than an Interception but sometimes it would serve the Offesnse well if he just throws it away, instead of taking a negative play.

I'm not a fan of the read option. It unnecessarily exposes toe QB to big hits both legal ones and illegal ones. Wilson does a great job at it, but most running QB'S are burning their future for a little better performance today.

I don't want to waste the best Tannehill years (when he is a veteran) just for a few plays early 8n his career.

Ellerbe seeking advice from Derek Brooks is not a bad thing.

I really like his approach to this.

i would really like to know why 24 is the magic number

they say if you do something 24 times in a row it becomes ingrained in your memory - and in this case muscle memory.

i was told this growing up, so maybe it has to do with that. but who knows.

Doesnt seem like that much. Hell catch 100...

I'm sure Reggie did more than that when he was/is putting in extra work

Agreed...30 doesn't sound like anything more than a warm-up...
