Spragan benched....Channing starter

This is just great news.

Now I can start him in Madden without feeling guilty.

saban making some decent draft choice that can actually contribute. Crowder will learn plenty from Seau and Thomas.
Ladies and Gentlement.. the future od the Dolphin D!

He is just the starter in 3-4 not 4-3 spragan is the starter there.

I don't know that this is great news. I have been watching Spragan and that guy has been very good while Crowder can disappear in the crowd sometimes (haha get it? ok bad joke). While the D is still learning things you move Seau to the OLB spot and have Crowder play at the weak side spot where he didn't get as much extensive work as middle? I don't know man. I hope Saban's not just strapping in for a rough ride this season and planning for the future...

IMO it was the right move. Not that Spragan has been bad, but Crowder did look solid every game. Every pre-season game I saw he was always around the ball.

Plus, our defense needs to get younger. Crowder is not only younger, but he is the prototype LB for Saban's system.

According to the article, it says Crowder is moving inside with ZT, and Seau to the outside in a 3/4, so whos the other starting lb?

Taylor? i dunno...

anyhow, i'm not crazy about putting Seau at strong side LB if that is the case... He's always been a WLB or MLB, no? ... Isn't that too physical a pounding every down, to be over a tightend with the right tackle blasting him so often at this point in his career?

regardless... the front seven likely will be moving around and interchanged quite frequently.... i'm sure 12-14 of them will get plenty of playing time...

Call me NostraDUMBAS$. I predicted all along that Channing was the rookie standout in camp and said he owuld be starting by the end of the season. However, the other half of that prediction was that he would replce Seau and not Spragan. Spragan is much better in coverage though so I think Donnie will still see plenty of time. However, Crowder has done a great job so far and if he remains healthy, I maintain, as I said a few weeks back, that he will be in the running for DROY.

I was surprised by Spragan's demotion... I, too, thought he has been one of the most consistant players in PS. I don't think that he will be sitting for long.

better than who? everything i've read and seen of Spragan is that he's a liability in coverage and is VASTLY better against the run...

Derrick Pope said that Weakside was alot easier position to play then Middle linebacker... Alot less pre-snap calls and reads.

Alot of the times, the positioning isnt even that different. In the 3-4 or 4-3 Over/Under defense we are playing the majority of the time, they are both lined up over either Guard.

I dont really think so. Seau has always ended up tangling with blockers, it's just his style of play.

That is very good news in my opinion...

Yes, Spragan played fine the last 2 games the article on the homepage said. So it's more of Crowder rising than Spragan falling, which gives us more quality depth at LB.
